The appearance brought the University of Texas alumnus back to a show he had joined once before.
When Scheffler appeared on College GameDay
ESPN announced on October 18, 2024 that Scheffler would join the Austin broadcast as its Week 8 guest picker. The show took place ahead of the October 19 game between the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs, as ranked in ESPN’s announcement at the time. Those rankings describe the 2024 matchup, not current standings. ESPN’s announcement identified Scheffler as a “Texas Ex.”
The PGA TOUR reported the scheduled appearance the day before, noting that Scheffler would make picks alongside host Rece Davis and the analyst panel. The PGA TOUR report and Golf Channel’s report both covered the guest-picker announcement.
Why Scheffler was a fitting guest
Scheffler played college golf at Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in finance, according to the PGA TOUR. His connection to the school helps explain why he suited a broadcast in Austin before a major Texas game; that is context, not a stated explanation from ESPN for its selection.

His earlier College GameDay appearance
