Yes. In January 2025, TheWrap reported that Marlon and Shawn Wayans were reuniting to write an original script and produce a franchise restart, describing their collaboration as their first in 18 years. TheWrap also named Rick Alvarez as a writer and producer.

Paramount’s later credits show a broader Wayans family role in the finished film: Marlon, Shawn, Keenen Ivory, and Craig Wayans are credited as writers, and Wayans family members are among the producers and cast. That makes “reunion” most precise as a return to collaborative writing and production after the gap described in TheWrap’s report, rather than a return by every member of the family after a total absence.
The label varies by source and stage of the project. Early coverage called it a reboot or restart; Paramount describes the released movie as the franchise’s sixth installment.

When did the new Scary Movie come out?
The film was released in 2026. Its date changed during development: TheWrap’s January 2025 report listed June 12, 2026, while a June 3, 2026 CBS Atlanta report said the theatrical date had moved to June 5. Paramount’s August announcement subsequently described the movie as having been released earlier that year.
Paramount announced that exclusive Paramount+ streaming would begin September 3, 2026. The service’s current listing shows the film as available to stream. Paramount+ lists it as rated R with a runtime of 1 hour 35 minutes; availability can depend on territory, and the listing does not establish access or subscription terms in every country.

Which original cast members returned?
Paramount confirms four prominent returning performers and their familiar characters:
- Marlon Wayans as Shorty
- Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins
- Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell
- Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks
Paramount’s announcement also names additional cast members, but these four returns are the clearest connection to the earlier films. It would be inaccurate to describe the new movie as bringing back the full original cast.

Where can you watch Scary Movie 6?
Paramount+ lists Scary Movie (2026) as available to stream. Paramount’s August 19, 2026 announcement said streaming on the service would begin September 3. Check the service in your country for current availability and subscription requirements; a listing does not guarantee access in every region.
Paramount Pictures Germany’s official film page lists DVD and Blu-ray formats, but that alone does not confirm a particular edition’s stock or availability in other markets. No specific retailer listing or digital purchase option is established here.

What does the reunion mean for the new film?
The original Scary Movie films parodied horror conventions, including those associated with Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. TheWrap notes that Marlon and Shawn wrote and starred in the first two films, while Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed them. Paramount says the 2026 installment also targets horror conventions, giving the Wayans’ return a direct creative connection to the franchise’s early identity.
Production also had an Atlanta connection: CBS Atlanta reported that the movie was filmed entirely in the city. In that interview, Shawn Wayans said, “I think that right now we all need a good laugh.” Director Michael Tiddes said, “I feel honored to have the guys back me up and support me and to be able to do it.”
