Say Nothing is an FX limited series adapted from Patrick Radden Keefe’s nonfiction book about murder, memory and political violence in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Its story spans four decades, beginning with the 1972 disappearance of Belfast mother Jean McConville. Disney announced a nine-episode UK premiere in 2024; where to stream it now depends on your location.
What is Say Nothing about?
The series follows events and people connected to the Troubles, the conflict in Northern Ireland, and the lasting effects of violence and silence. Its opening point is the 1972 disappearance of Jean McConville, a widowed Belfast mother of ten. The narrative spans four decades and includes members of the IRA. Disney’s UK announcement describes the series’ scope, while Channel 4’s announcement outlines its focus on the people and consequences surrounding the conflict.
Is it based on a true story?
Yes. FX identifies Say Nothing as an adaptation of Patrick Radden Keefe’s nonfiction book, Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland. The series dramatizes material drawn from reported nonfiction; the available official descriptions establish its source and broad premise, but do not provide a basis for judging its historical accuracy scene by scene. FX’s series page and the publisher’s book listing confirm the connection.
How many episodes are there?
Disney announced that all nine episodes premiered in the UK on November 14, 2024. That is the UK launch information; FX also presents the title as a limited series. Disney’s announcement gives the episode count and premiere date.
