Four days after Andrew announced on 17 October 2025 that he would no longer use his titles, Sarah Ferguson removed “Duchess of York” references from her social-media bios and changed her X handle, according to E! News. The profile edits were not a formal legal action against Ferguson.
What Sarah Ferguson changed on social media
E! News reported on 21 October 2025 that Ferguson removed references to “Duchess of York” from her profiles on X and Instagram. Her X handle changed from @SarahTheDuchess to @sarahMFergie15. Her Instagram handle remained @SarahFerguson15, while the bios on both platforms no longer referred to the title. E! News reported that Ferguson and Andrew divorced in 1996 and that she had continued to use the Duchess of York title in some public settings.
The same report said their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, retained their official titles. The reported change concerned Ferguson’s own profiles.
What Andrew announced—and what happened later
On 17 October 2025, Andrew said he would no longer use his title or honours, with the King’s agreement. In the statement published by The Royal Family, he said: “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.” He also said: “As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.” He explained that continued accusations distracted from the work of the King and the Royal Family. That announcement and the later formal change were separate events. The House of Commons Library records that Letters Patent dated 3 November 2025 formally removed Andrew’s Prince title and Royal Highness style. Ferguson’s reported social-media edits came before that formal step.
Did Ferguson legally lose the Duchess of York title?
The reported profile change does not establish that a legal instrument stripped Ferguson of a title. It shows that she removed the wording from her social-media bios and changed her X handle. The House of Commons Library explains that Letters Patent issued in 1996 meant a former wife in this position did not have the style of Royal Highness; it notes that this applied to Sarah, Duchess of York after her divorce in May 1996. That is distinct from the courtesy-title usage described in the E! News report.

In a separate report dated 3 February 2026, the Associated Press said Sarah’s Trust would close for the foreseeable future. That development was reported months after the October 2025 profile change and is not evidence of a further change to Ferguson’s social-media title references.
