Cinnamoroll won Sanrio’s 2024 Character Ranking with 5,665,543 votes. Hello Kitty placed fifth, 2,114,102 votes behind the winner. The result reflects Sanrio’s annual character vote—not merchandise sales or a definitive measure of every character’s popularity.

What changed from 2023?
Cinnamoroll remained in first place. Pochacco rose from fourth in 2023 to second in 2024, while Hello Kitty stayed fifth. Those movements describe the vote’s year-over-year rankings; they do not establish why people voted as they did or how much merchandise each character sold.

What the result says—and what it doesn’t
The ranking is a result of Sanrio’s character-voting event. It should not be read as a sales chart or as an objective census of popularity beyond the people who took part. TIME’s June 27, 2024 profile of Hello Kitty and Sanrio noted Kitty’s fifth-place finish while discussing Sanrio’s broader character portfolio; that business-strategy context does not make the vote a measure of company performance.
