Sandy described the five new songs on her live DVD Meu Canto as emerging from collaboration, family life and ideas she had carried for years. In a May 2016 interview with Leonardo Torres for POPline, she explained how “Me Espera,” “Salto,” “Colidiu,” “Respirar” and “Meu Canto” came together—and what she did and did not intend listeners to read into them.
What is Meu Canto?
Meu Canto is a live DVD recorded over two nights at Teatro Municipal de Niterói near the end of 2015, according to POPline’s interview with Sandy. Gshow’s May 2016 launch coverage says the set combines five new songs with selections from her solo career and two songs from Sandy & Junior. Tiago Iorc joins her on “Me Espera”; Gshow’s July performance feature also identifies Gilberto Gil as a guest on “Olhos Meus.”

Sandy told Gshow, “Meu DVD Meu Canto está recheado de coisa feita com muito carinho. É como se eu tivesse abrindo meu coração, abrindo um pouco da minha vida pras pessoas.” The remark captures the personal spirit of the project, while the stories below are her accounts of how particular songs took shape.
How did Sandy and Tiago Iorc make “Me Espera”?
The song began with an older guitar idea from Lucas Lima. Sandy recalled, “Eu comecei essa música com o Lucas. Era uma ideia antiga dele no violão, um riffizinho no violão.” She and Lucas developed it during a two-day getaway in the mountains of southern Minas Gerais.

They then sent the developing song to Tiago Iorc, whose songwriting they admired. Sandy said they exchanged ideas with him before recording the song together. “Me Espera” became the lead track for the DVD. POPline reported 3.4 million YouTube accesses for the song at the time of its May 22, 2016 interview; that is a historical figure from that article, not a current view count.
What did Sandy say about “Salto” and “Colidiu”?
“Salto”: a love song for Lucas
Sandy called “Salto” a declaration of love written for her husband, Lucas Lima: “É todinha para ele. É uma declaração de amor”. That is her description of the song’s intention.
Rank #2
“Colidiu”: not autobiographical
Sandy said Lucas brought the idea for “Colidiu” and wrote most of its lyrics. She also explicitly said the song was not autobiographical. Its lyrics should therefore not be treated as evidence of events in the couple’s private life.
How did motherhood shape “Respirar”?
Sandy said she met Daniel Lopes, a member of the band Reverse, among contestants on the television program Superstar, and wrote “Respirar” with him. She described becoming a mother as a change in priorities that meant she had to make deliberate space for composing, including afternoons in the studio with Lucas.

Rather than waiting for inspiration to arrive on its own, Sandy said, “A gente precisa parar para fazer. Não é uma coisa assim ‘deixa fluir’, sabe?” Her account presents the song’s creation as a return to songwriting made possible by scheduling time for it.

Sandy said she had long liked a phrase attributed to Carl Jung and kept it on her bedroom wall. While they were working on “Meu Canto,” Lucas remembered it. The lyric fragment quoted in the interview is “pois quem olha pra fora sonha / e quem olha pra dentro desperta.” This explains the phrase’s role in Sandy’s account of the song’s inspiration; the interview does not independently establish the wording’s original attribution to Jung.
