Samuel L. Jackson appeared as Uncle Sam and introduced Kendrick Lamar during the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show on February 9, 2025. The Associated Press reported that Jackson played emcee during the performance at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
What Samuel L. Jackson did during the halftime show
Jackson entered in an Uncle Sam costume, greeted the crowd with “Salutations!” and introduced Lamar. The AP described him as the show’s emcee. In character, he also called the performers “too loud, too reckless, too ghetto” and told Lamar to “play the game.” Those lines were part of the staged performance, not statements Jackson made in an interview.
The AP’s account documents what viewers saw, but it does not establish Jackson’s own explanation of the character or its intended meaning. It is best to distinguish the onstage dialogue from any claim about his personal creative intent.
When and where the performance took place
The NFL and Roc Nation announced the event as the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, headlined by Lamar on February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. It aired on FOX. The AP described the set as lasting just under 13 minutes and reported SZA as a guest performer.
