Sampung Magkakaibigan is a 2008 Filipino children’s picture book by writer Kristine Canon and illustrator Ruben de Jesus. It follows Karlo and his nine classmates as a friendship comes under strain, and is listed by Adarna House for readers aged 6 and up.
What is Sampung Magkakaibigan about?
Karlo and his nine classmates make up a group of ten friends. They enjoy playing, studying, and helping one another, but sometimes Karlo is not pleasant to be with. As his classmates gradually distance themselves, the story asks what he is doing and whether the group can become ten friends again. The publisher’s synopsis and a DepEd Dasmariñas City Learning Resource Center catalog record give this premise but do not describe the complete resolution, so the ending is best discovered in the book.
The title means “Ten Friends.” The publisher’s English synopsis frames the story around friendship and the change in the group’s relationships; it does not specify the particular behavior that causes the others to pull away.
Who made the book, and which edition is it?
Kristine Canon wrote the story, and Ruben de Jesus illustrated it. Adarna House identifies the 2008 Filipino edition with an English translation as a 32-page picture book measuring 7 by 9 inches. Its ISBN is 9789715083157, a useful identifier when searching for this specific title. The publisher also notes a big-book format, but does not provide its full specifications on the product listing.

Who is the book for?
Adarna House recommends the book for children aged 6 and up. Its school-and-friends setting and group dynamic also make the premise suitable for a read-aloud or a conversation about how behavior affects friendships. That is a discussion opportunity, not a claim about a prescribed lesson or a guaranteed educational outcome.

Areté and Ateneo de Manila Basic Education feature the story in Sandaang Salaysay, where it is identified as a Kristine Canon story read aloud by Reimar Panti and Mafe Trinidad. The page also points to a free stream and additional learning activities through Areté Connect. A 2016 Basa Pilipinas Grade 1 Filipino teacher’s guide lists the title as a read-aloud under a school-and-friends theme; that historical listing does not establish its current curriculum status.
