Samantha Jade says she auditioned to play Joan Jett in the 2010 film The Runaways and left convinced she had done badly. In an interview on Callan Durlik’s YouTube series Werking With, she recalled how the experience shook her confidence in later auditions—and said she would like to return to acting.
What Samantha Jade recalled about the audition
Jade told Durlik that her Los Angeles record label had recommended her for auditions. When she went in for the role of Joan Jett, she said she warned the people in the room that she did not think she could become a “rock chick.”
She remembered the audition as a failure: “I went in, I did the audition, I knew I was terrible, I walked out and I thought that was the worst thing I’ve ever done,” she said, as quoted by PerthNow.
What she said she heard afterward
Jade said her agent later told her that the production had called it “the worst audition of the day.” That is Jade recounting what her agent allegedly told her; it is not independently confirmed feedback from the film’s production.
