Sakamoto Days: Who Is the Strongest Order Member? What the Evidence Can—and Can’t—Rank

No official source ranks every Sakamoto Days Order member by strength. Here is what the official material confirms—and why it does not establish a definitive strongest member.

There is no official combat ranking of the Order, and the available official material does not establish a complete roster or enough comparable feats to rank every member responsibly. Nagumo is explicitly described by the official film character profile as an Order member with high combat ability, but that description does not prove he is stronger than the others. This article uses a chapter-277 cutoff, corresponding to the VIZ series listing accessed October 8, 2026, and separates confirmed information from conclusions a reader would have to infer.

Why there is no definitive Order ranking

The Order is an assassin special unit associated with the Japanese Association of Assassins (JAA). The official film character profile identifies Nagumo as a member and describes him as a highly capable fighter and master of disguise. That is useful evidence about Nagumo, not a comparison with every other member.

Neither the official Shueisha series and volume listings nor the official anime and film character pages provide an exhaustive, up-to-date membership ledger or a combat hierarchy. The anime cast page names characters including Nagumo, Shishiba, Osaragi, Hyo, Takamura, and Kanaguri, but being listed in a cast is not proof of Order membership. Shueisha’s volume summaries describe Order-related events across different story eras, rather than supplying a complete status list.

So a numbered list that claims to rank every member would imply more certainty than those sources support. The list below is instead a ranking of what the official material establishes about combat strength—not a claim that the first name is canonically the strongest.

Evidence-ranked: what can be established

Evidence position Character or group What the cited official material establishes What it does not establish
1 Nagumo The official film character profile identifies him as an Order member and describes his combat ability as high; it also calls him a master of disguise. It does not compare him with another Order member or declare him the strongest.
Not rankable Shishiba, Osaragi, Hyo, Takamura, and Kanaguri These characters appear on the official anime cast page. Shueisha volume summaries also place Shishiba and Osaragi in Order-related story events. A cast listing is not a membership record, and those pages do not provide comparable combat outcomes or settle each character’s membership status across story eras.
Not rankable Sakamoto, Akao, and Kindaka Shueisha volume summaries describe younger Sakamoto, Nagumo, and Akao undertaking a mission with Order and Kindaka. A synopsis of an Order-related mission does not, by itself, establish that each person was an Order member or provide a basis for comparing their strength.

“Evidence position” is deliberately not a power placement. Nagumo is first because the cited official profile makes a direct statement about his combat ability; the other entries lack an equivalent comparison in the cited pages. This is a difference in what the sources say, not proof of a difference in fighting strength.

How to judge a fan ranking

A manga-based ranking can be useful when it states its scope and weighs the scenes rather than treating a character’s reputation as a measurement. For the chapter-277 cutoff used here, a defensible comparison should account for:

  • Demonstrated results: the opponent, the outcome, and whether an interruption, injury, preparation, or environmental advantage affected it.
  • Versatility: the character’s demonstrated options at different ranges, tactical choices, and ability to adapt when a plan fails.
  • Consistency and limitations: whether a showing reflects ordinary performance, an unusual condition, or a peak version from another point in the story.
  • Evidence quality: direct manga scenes and explicit statements are stronger evidence than fan inference or a character’s reputation.

These criteria can support a reasoned interpretation, but they do not turn it into an official hierarchy. The manga is serialized and its story continues, so a ranking should always identify its chapter cutoff and distinguish current standing from a character’s strongest showing.

What official polls and reference books can tell you

Shueisha’s second character popularity poll opened voting on October 20, 2024. It measures reader preference, not fighting ability, and should not be used as a strength chart. Shueisha’s Sakamoto Days Official Fanbook: Assassin’s File, published February 4, 2025, includes character-profile sections. Its catalogue listing confirms the book’s publication and contents at a high level, but does not publish power statistics or a complete combat ranking.

Where to check the story and character context

For direct evidence, consult the manga through the chapter cutoff rather than inferring membership from an anime cast list. VIZ’s official series page lists the collected manga volumes, including Vol. 24 in the catalogue accessed October 8, 2026. Shueisha’s official volume summaries provide story-era context, while its fanbook listing confirms the reference book’s profile sections. None of those catalogue pages should be mistaken for an official ranking.
