How Carpenter describes the album
In TIME’s October 2024 interview, Carpenter called Short n’ Sweet a “time capsule” of a certain period in her life. She also described the contrast between the songs’ attitudes: “I like the fact that I just put out a song that starts with ‘I can’t relate to desperation,’ and then I’m putting out the most desperate possible sounding chorus I could in my life.” TIME attributes the remark to Carpenter discussing “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
