Yes. CBS renewed S.W.A.T. for an eighth season on April 11, 2024, reversing its earlier plan for season seven to be the show’s last. The series ultimately ended with a two-part finale on May 16, 2025.
How S.W.A.T. went from canceled to renewed twice
- May 2023: CBS canceled S.W.A.T. after six seasons, then reversed course and ordered a seventh season that it described as the series’ final season. TVLine’s contemporaneous coverage records that sequence.
- April 11, 2024: CBS announced that S.W.A.T. would return for season eight in the 2024–25 broadcast season. Sony Pictures Television also confirmed the eighth-season order. CBS’s renewal announcement and Sony Pictures Television’s confirmation document the renewal.
- March 2025: CBS Studios announced a two-hour series finale, with its second part scheduled to air on May 16, 2025. The show has therefore concluded; another season is not pending. CBS Studios’ finale announcement gives the date.
Why season seven was called the final season
The “final season” label referred to CBS’s 2023 decision, not to a permanent end that remained in force. At that point, the network had reversed its initial cancellation and renewed the show for a seventh season while presenting it as the conclusion. The 2024 order for season eight was a later reversal of that plan.
CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach framed the eighth-season pickup as a twist, saying the network “always ‘stay liquid’ and love a good dramatic twist, especially when it leads to an eighth season of S.W.A.T.!” Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope credited the show’s lead, Shemar Moore, and its fans in her statement about the renewal. These were executives’ comments in the renewal announcement, not independent measures of audience response.
What happened after the renewal
The April 2024 announcement confirmed an eighth season for the 2024–25 broadcast season; it did not establish that season eight was already planned as the final season. CBS Studios later announced the series finale, whose second part aired May 16, 2025. That finale is the historical endpoint of the show’s run.

Where the finale was available to stream
The 2025 finale notice named Paramount+ for U.S. streaming at the time, with access depending on subscription tier. That dated notice does not establish whether the finale is currently in the service’s catalog.
