During his remarks, Reynolds named all four of the couple’s children: James, Inez, Betty and Olin. The announcement ended months of public speculation about the baby’s name.
When did Ryan Reynolds reveal the name?
The name reveal took place at the New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine on July 22, 2024. Reynolds was appearing at the event as the film’s star and used part of his remarks to thank Lively and their children.
#1 Best Overall
The premiere was not the couple’s birth announcement. Lively had already indicated that she was expecting their fourth child in September 2022, and a February 2023 social-media appearance without her pregnancy bump was widely understood as evidence that the baby had arrived. The couple did not initially disclose the child’s name or sex.
Is Olin a boy?
Yes. Reynolds later referred to Olin as his son in a video conversation connected with Walking 4 Hope and John Bell, a father who had lost his son. That confirmation came shortly after the premiere name reveal, in late July 2024.
When was Olin born?
The available public reporting places Olin’s birth in early 2023, but an exact birth date has not been established in the sources reviewed. Lively’s February 2023 post helped prompt reports that the couple had welcomed their fourth child, but neither parent issued a formal announcement giving a specific date.
For that reason, it is more accurate to say that Olin was born in early 2023 than to assign a precise birthday or repeat an age from an older article. The family has also kept other personal details private, including any middle name and the reason they chose Olin.

The Taylor Swift connection
The name reveal was notable partly because of the family’s long-running connection to Taylor Swift. Swift’s 2020 song “Betty” uses the names James, Inez and Betty—names widely associated with Reynolds and Lively’s three older daughters.
Before Olin’s name was public, Reynolds joked during a May 2024 appearance on Today that the family was still waiting for Swift to reveal the fourth child’s name. The comment referenced Swift’s use of the older children’s names; it was not evidence that the fourth child’s name appeared on one of Swift’s songs or albums.
The later reveal confirmed that the youngest child’s publicly known name is Olin. Unlike the names James, Inez and Betty, Olin was not introduced through a Taylor Swift song.
What is known about the Reynolds-Lively children?
| Child | What is publicly established |
|---|---|
| James | The couple’s eldest daughter. |
| Inez | Their second daughter. |
| Betty | Their third daughter; her name is associated with Swift’s song “Betty.” |
| Olin | Their youngest child. Reynolds publicly revealed the name in July 2024 and later referred to Olin as his son. |
Reynolds and Lively have generally limited the amount of identifying information they share about their children. The public record confirms the children’s names, but it does not establish Olin’s exact birth date, middle name, name meaning or naming inspiration.

Why the reveal happened at the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere
Reynolds made the announcement while promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, the Marvel film in which he plays Wade Wilson/Deadpool opposite Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The film’s theatrical release date was July 26, 2024, making the New York premiere a major public appearance for Reynolds and the movie’s cast.
The premiere provides the setting for the reveal, but the film itself is unrelated to the choice of the name Olin. Marvel later documented physical editions of the movie, including 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD releases, for viewers interested in the film surrounding the news event.
What has not been confirmed?
- Exact birth date: Public reporting supports early 2023, not a verified specific day.
- Middle name: No middle name has been publicly established in the available reporting.
- Meaning or origin: Reynolds and Lively have not provided a confirmed explanation for choosing Olin.
- Naming inspiration: There is no reliable evidence that Olin was chosen because of Taylor Swift, Deadpool or any other publicly discussed reference.
The durable answer is straightforward: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s fourth child is named Olin. Reynolds revealed the name at the July 22, 2024 New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, and later confirmed that Olin is his son.
