Joe and Anthony Russo, Guy Ritchie and screenwriter David Callaham have been reported as attachments, but those credits—and the director’s status in particular—are not settled. The project’s final story, musical format and production schedule have not been confirmed in the coverage available as of August 13, 2026.
Is the live-action Hercules movie happening?
Coverage describes the adaptation as in development, but that label does not mean filming has started or that a release is scheduled. An August 2026 roundup found no confirmed filming status, trailer, cast, release date or final story. That absence is not proof the project has been cancelled; it means those details have not been established publicly in the sources reviewed. DocumentaryTube

Who is attached to the project?
- Joe and Anthony Russo: Reported as producers.
- Guy Ritchie: Reported as the director, though his current status is unresolved. A 2024 report said he had been expected to direct and relayed reporting that he had left because of scheduling conflicts; later coverage still lists him as attached. Neither departure nor continued involvement should be treated as settled. What’s On Disney Plus, April 30, 2024 GamesRadar+
- David Callaham: Reported as a screenwriter.
These are reported attachments, not a final confirmed set of credits. No cast has been confirmed in the coverage reviewed, so actors mentioned in rumors should not be treated as cast members.
What could the story and style be?
The adaptation is associated with Disney’s 1997 animated film, but no final plot or approved production plan has been reported. In 2024, the Russo brothers’ approach was described as not a scene-for-scene translation and as potentially more experimental, with modern elements. Later coverage also discussed TikTok in connection with that approach. These reports describe creative discussion, not confirmed scenes or story details. What’s On Disney Plus GamesRadar+
