Why was it called Murdoch’s fifth marriage but sixth engagement?
Murdoch had been married four times before marrying Zhukova. His most recent previous marriage, to Jerry Hall, ended in divorce in 2022, according to the Associated Press. Read the AP background report.
Some coverage described Zhukova as his sixth fiancée because it counted his 2023 engagement to Ann Lesley Smith. Reuters reported that the engagement was called off weeks later. An engagement that ended without a marriage does not add to a person’s marriage count, which is why the June 2024 wedding was Murdoch’s fifth marriage.
