Rotta the Hutt is Jabba’s son, voiced by Jeremy Allen White in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Lucasfilm describes the film’s Rotta as young, strong and athletic—a markedly different presentation from the infant Hutt introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Who is Rotta the Hutt?
Rotta is Jabba the Hutt’s son. He first appeared as an infant in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where he was nicknamed “Stinky.” Lucasfilm says he returns as a main character in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Lucasfilm’s production feature revisits his introduction and explains how the character was adapted for the new film.
Who voices Rotta in The Mandalorian and Grogu?
Jeremy Allen White performs Rotta’s voice. He and Richard Cetrone, the stunt performer who represented Rotta on set, had distinct roles in bringing the digital character to life. Lucasfilm lists White among the film’s cast on its official film page.
What does Rotta look like in the film?
Lucasfilm describes this version of Rotta as young, strong and athletic, and as both a gladiator and a significant, sympathetic character. His design was developed to retain a recognizable Hutt-family resemblance while giving him a distinct personality. Lucasfilm says the look evolved during production as the team worked to balance those aims.

Rotta is a digital character built by Industrial Light & Magic. According to Lucasfilm, the character’s skeleton, muscles, fat and skin were simulated after animation. Animation supervisor Hal Hickel called Rotta “the hardest problem to solve in the whole film” from an animation standpoint. The production challenge helps explain why the first look is more than a simple return to the infant design: the filmmakers had to create a convincing, physically expressive character for a very different role.
What does the first look establish—and what remains unclear?
The image and Lucasfilm’s later production account establish the film’s broad take on Rotta: Jabba’s son has grown into a powerful, athletic gladiator, while remaining part of the Hutt family. Director Jon Favreau also described Rotta as Jabba’s son and a gladiator in an Associated Press report, saying the character is “a lot different than people remember.”
