The available accounts span interviews and news reports; they are not a complete medical history or a current health update.
Health issues Rosie O’Donnell has discussed
The reports trace distinct disclosures over time: a heart attack covered in 2012, surgery reported retrospectively in 2014, and comments about medication and depression in a 2025 interview. The timeline is useful context, but it does not establish every condition O’Donnell has experienced.
| Date | What was reported | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| August 2012 | Heart attack; coronary artery reported as 99 percent blocked, with a stent inserted. | Details of O’Donnell’s account reported by CBS News in 2012 and ABC News in follow-up coverage. CBS News; ABC News. |
| July 2013 | Gastric sleeve surgery. | ABC News reported in 2014 that the procedure removed two-thirds of her stomach. ABC News. |
| July 2025 interview | Use of Mounjaro, initially prescribed for diabetes; appetite and weight effects; longstanding depression and antidepressant use. | As O’Donnell described these experiences to The Irish Times; the interview does not establish her current prescription or health status. What O’Donnell said about her 2012 heart attack
CBS News reported that O’Donnell described developing chest aching, sore arms, nausea and clammy skin after helping someone out of a car. She initially thought she had pulled a muscle, took aspirin and saw a cardiologist the next day. CBS attributed the finding of a 99 percent blocked coronary artery and the stent insertion to her account of what happened.
ABC News also covered the episode and reported O’Donnell’s account that an EKG found the blockage and that a stent restored blood flow. In the CBS report, she said, “I’m just lucky that I survived it, truthfully.” These are details of her experience as reported at the time, not medical advice about symptoms or when to seek care.

Gastric sleeve surgery in 2013
ABC News reported in 2014 that O’Donnell decided to have gastric sleeve surgery in July 2013. The report described the operation as removing two-thirds of her stomach. O’Donnell also discussed reducing sugar and making lifestyle changes. This is a record of a procedure she underwent, not a recommendation or an assessment of what treatment is appropriate for anyone else.
Diabetes treatment and weight changes described in 2025
In a July 2025 interview with The Irish Times, O’Donnell said she had taken Mounjaro for three years and that it was initially prescribed for diabetes. She described reduced appetite and changes in her weight, including recalling that she lost nine pounds in the first week. That figure is her recollection in the interview, not an independently verified measurement; the account does not specify dosage or establish whether she still takes the medication.

Depression and antidepressant use
The same Irish Times profile describes depression as a longstanding part of O’Donnell’s life. She told the interviewer that she began taking antidepressants in response to the 1999 Columbine school shootings. This is a personal disclosure, not a clinical assessment or a full account of her mental-health history.

O’Donnell’s career began well before these reported events: she appeared in A League of Their Own in 1992, and The Rosie O’Donnell Show ran from 1996 to 2002, according to The Irish Times. The health reports document several disclosures made years into that career. They do not provide a comprehensive medical record or establish her health today; the latest detailed account cited here is the July 2025 interview.
