Rosé and Bruno Mars won Song of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards for “APT.” The award was shared: MTV’s official winners list names both artists as the winners, so Rosé did not take the category alone.
The winners and the song
MTV’s official winners list records “APT.” as the Song of the Year, with Rosé and Bruno Mars credited together. CBS News’ contemporaneous winners list shows the same pairing, listing “ROSÉ & Bruno Mars – ‘APT.’” under Song of the Year.

Korea.net, the Republic of Korea’s official government website, reported on September 9, 2025, that the song was inspired by a Korean drinking game and was released in October 2024. The same report cites a Billboard figure of 45 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Korea.net does not give the chart date or the reference year for that figure, so if you cite it, attribute it to Korea.net’s report rather than to a specific Billboard chart issue.

Song of the Year is not Video of the Year

What Rosé said on stage
Korea.net quotes Rosé’s acceptance remarks: “Thank you so much for believing in me and helping me build this world together.” She also described the honor as “a really big moment for 16-year-old me and anyone else who has dreamed of being accepted equally for their hard work,” and credited the hard work and discipline of her team, according to the same report.
Rosé was not the only BLACKPINK winner that night. Korea.net reports that the group won Best Group, which means Rosé came away with two awards from the ceremony.

How to describe the “first for K-pop” claim
Korea.net describes the Song of the Year win as a first for K-pop. That is the publication’s framing. It is not an independently verified award-history claim, so attribute it to Korea.net if you repeat it.
