In a December 23, 2025 exclusive interview with The Sportster, Je’Von Evans described a breakout year that took him across WWE programming and into appearances in TNA and AAA. The article makes the case for his rookie-year impact through those opportunities, including a high-profile NXT main event and appearances on Raw and SmackDown; “Rookie of the Year” is its framing, not a formal award result.
Why the article calls 2025 a breakout year
The interview presents Evans’s 2025 as a rapid expansion of opportunity across WWE, TNA, and AAA. It describes him appearing on Raw and SmackDown, competing against established performers, and reaching his first NXT Championship main-event opportunity. That chronology and the characterization of his rookie season are the interview article’s account, rather than a separately verified record of every appearance.
Evans said he had not expected the opportunities to arrive so soon and linked them to the work he had put in: “I didn’t even think it was going to happen for the first three years, honestly,” he told The Sportster. “All this, I wasn’t expecting at all. But I was working hard, you know what I mean? This was the reward. This is what happens when you work hard. You go crazy. They give you opportunity. You start traveling, you go everywhere. This is what happens.”
The Stand and Deliver main event he singled out
The interview highlights the NXT Stand and Deliver triple threat with Trick Williams and Oba Femi as the first NXT main event featuring three Black men. Evans described the significance as both a milestone and a chance to encourage similar opportunities: “It was the first time, and I feel like we had something to prove, not only because it was the first time, but also because we want to see more of that. That was something that we all agreed on. ‘Hey, let’s go out there and kill it, so this can happen more often.’”

What “Rookie of the Year” means here
The headline’s “Rookie of the Year” language is an editorial assessment of Evans’s impact, not evidence that he received a formal award. The article also invokes Brock Lesnar as a benchmark for a standout rookie season, but it does not establish a statistical comparison between the two. Its case rests on the breadth and level of Evans’s reported opportunities, rather than a published award or a defined comparative record.
What Evans said about a possible WrestleMania match
In the interview’s December 2025 context, Evans said he was ready for a possible first WrestleMania opportunity and named Oba Femi as a hoped-for opponent. He pointed to their prior encounters and talked up the prospect of winning on that stage: “I’m blessed with whatever opportunity they grant me with because I’m going to go crazy, especially if it’s my first WrestleMania. I have to go crazy. If it is Oba Femi, then number one, that’s going to be a great match, and number two, I am going to beat him because I’ve lost back three times. I can’t let that happen again. I can’t let that happen again. I got to get a dub. What better place to beat Oba Femi than in WrestleMania?” That was his expressed hope at the time, not confirmation of a booked match or a current plan.
