If you want romance anime that spend time on a couple’s relationship instead of stretching out a will-they-won’t-they, start with TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You or Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie: both begin with the central pair already together. Boarding School Juliet offers a secret relationship, while Horimiya is a promising early-couple pick whose exact dating episode is not established by the official episode summary reviewed here.
That distinction matters: an opening confession or obvious attraction is not the same thing as dating early. The evidence available supports a short, qualified set of recommendations—not a reliable list of 25 titles. Rather than pad the list with romances whose timing is unclear, this guide identifies what is established and flags the softer fit.
Best picks if you want the couple together from the start
TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You
This is the clearest choice if you want the relationship to be the premise, not a distant payoff. The official episode-one synopsis says Nasa accepts Tsukasa’s condition of marriage, and the season introduction frames the series around their married life. They begin beyond ordinary dating, so choose it if an already-committed couple sounds appealing. Official anime site.
Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
Izumi and Shikimori are boyfriend and girlfriend at the outset. The official introduction presents their affectionate everyday life as the story’s focus, making this a direct fit for viewers who want to watch an established couple rather than wait for a confession. Official anime site.

Best pick for a secret relationship
Boarding School Juliet
Romeo and Juliet become secret lovers after Romeo confesses, according to the official introduction. Keep the opening episode in mind: its synopsis centers on Romeo deciding to confess, so the relationship is not already established in the first scene. The appeal is the secret-couple premise and the complications that follow, rather than a couple who has been dating since episode one. Official anime site.
A promising early-romance option, with timing to qualify
Horimiya
The official site introduces Hori and Miyamura through an unexpected connection and identifies the adaptation as based on the popular manga. That makes it a natural pick for viewers interested in a romance that develops through the leads’ growing closeness. However, the official first-episode synopsis reviewed here does not specify exactly when they become a couple, so it is less firmly verified against an “early dating” cutoff than the three titles above. How to choose among them
| Title | Relationship at the start | What the official material establishes | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You | Marriage begins in episode one | Nasa accepts Tsukasa’s marriage condition; the season follows married life. Official site | Viewers who want the couple committed immediately |
| Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie | Already boyfriend and girlfriend | The official introduction calls Izumi Shikimori’s boyfriend and centers their everyday life. Official site | Established-couple sweetness |
| Boarding School Juliet | Secret lovers after a confession | The official introduction identifies them as secret lovers; episode one covers Romeo’s decision to confess. Official site | A romance shaped by secrecy and its complications |
| Horimiya | Not established by the reviewed episode-one synopsis | The official introduction describes Hori and Miyamura’s unexpected connection. Official site | A developing connection, with the exact dating point not confirmed here |
Popular romance anime that do not meet the same timing test
Tomo-chan Is a Girl!
Tomo’s confession is central to the first episode, but the official finale synopsis says she and Junichiro have finally become mutually in love. That makes it a weaker match for a request to see the leads dating early: a confession at the beginning does not mean the couple is together. Official anime site.
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War
Aniplex describes the premise as a contest in which the first person to confess loses. That prolonged confession game is part of the appeal, but it makes the series a poor fit if your priority is an early established relationship. Official anime site.

Why this is not a list of 25
A long recommendation list is only useful if the titles meet the timing promise. Reader discussions mention series such as Ore Monogatari!!, Golden Time, and Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku, but those suggestions alone do not verify when the central couples start dating. Without an official introduction or episode synopsis establishing the timing, they are not presented here as confirmed matches.
