Roger Moore married four times: first Doorn van Steyn, then singer Dorothy Squires, followed by Luisa Mattioli, and finally Kristina “Kiki” Tholstrup. His relationship with Mattioli began while they were working in Italy in 1961; they had three children and later divorced. In 2016, Moore publicly mourned Tholstrup’s daughter Christina Knudsen, whom he described in his tribute as “our daughter.”

- Doorn van Steyn: Moore’s first wife. The Los Angeles Times reports that the marriage ended in divorce; the available account does not establish a reliable wedding date.
- Dorothy Squires: The singer was his second wife. The Los Angeles Times also reports that their marriage ended in divorce, without establishing the private allegations sometimes attached to their relationship.
- Luisa Mattioli: Moore’s third wife. They met in 1961 while filming in Italy, had three children, and eventually divorced.
- Kristina “Kiki” Tholstrup: Moore’s fourth wife. He married her in 2002.
The chronology is well supported, but it does not by itself provide a full account of what each relationship was like. In particular, detailed claims about the earlier marriages should not be treated as established simply because they have appeared in celebrity coverage.
Luisa Mattioli and their family
Moore and Mattioli met on the set of The Rape of the Sabine Woman in 1961, according to The Guardian’s 2000 profile. They had three children: Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian. The Guardian and later obituaries describe Mattioli as Moore’s third wife and confirm the children’s names.

#1 Best Overall
The end of the marriage became public before Moore married Tholstrup. A 2000 Guardian report covered the separation and divorce settlement, but its pointed, tabloid-style treatment is not a sound basis for repeating insults or contested claims as fact. The Washington Post obituary says Moore ended the marriage by telephone after more than 30 years; that is the Post’s account of the breakup, not a complete, independently corroborated explanation of the marriage’s end. The Guardian obituary confirms that the marriage ended in divorce.
Kristina Tholstrup and Christina Knudsen
Moore married Kristina “Kiki” Tholstrup in 2002. In 2016, Tholstrup’s daughter Christina Knudsen died from cancer. ITV News reported that Moore publicly expressed his heartbreak and referred to Knudsen as “our daughter” in his tribute. In explanatory terms, Knudsen was his stepdaughter. The tribute gives a clear glimpse of his grief, but it should not be stretched into a broader psychological portrait.

What Moore’s memoir can—and cannot—tell readers
Moore’s autobiography, My Word Is My Bond, is a source for his own recollections, including his marriages. The Irish Times discussion of the memoir makes it relevant further reading for anyone interested in his perspective. Like any memoir, it represents the author’s account rather than independent verification of events. For the reported marriage chronology and family details, obituaries and contemporary reporting provide a separate evidentiary basis.

Moore’s own comment, “I spent my life playing heroes because I looked like one,” as reproduced in The Guardian’s obituary, concerns the screen persona that followed him through his career; it is not a statement about his marriages. The supported account of his private life is more specific and more limited: four marriages, three children with Mattioli, and a public expression of grief for his stepdaughter. It does not justify treating every dramatic claim circulated about his relationships as fact.
