The headline’s “perfect” dance needs a correction: Robert Irwin’s October 14, 2025 contemporary routine on the U.S. version of Dancing with the Stars was dedicated to his mother, Terri, and performed to Phil Collins’s “You’ll Be in My Heart.” The later dance dedicated to his late father, Steve, was the one that earned a perfect 40. The TikTok claim that Steve’s dream for his children had been surpassed is a secondhand description of a video that could not be independently verified.
What Robert Irwin’s dance was dedicated to
On October 14, 2025, Robert Irwin and professional partner Witney Carson performed a contemporary routine on the U.S. version of Dancing with the Stars for Dedication Night. Robert dedicated the dance to his mother, Terri Irwin, and the song was Phil Collins’s “You’ll Be in My Heart.” Terri joined them on stage at the end of the routine. Yahoo’s indexed article describes that performance and supplies the framing behind the emotional reaction.

What the TikTok video is said to show
The indexed Yahoo headline and summary refer to an older TikTok video said to show Steve Irwin’s greatest hope for his children, and frame Robert’s later achievements as exceeding that dream. The video itself, its original account and date, and Steve’s complete statement were not independently verified. That makes the claim an interpretation attributed to the indexed article—not proof of Steve’s precise words or intentions.
Why the perfect score belongs to a different dance
Robert’s tribute to his father was a separate performance. ABC News Australia reports that he and Carson danced a foxtrot to Leona Lewis’s “Footprints in the Sand.” His sister Bindi joined them on stage, while archival images of Steve with a baby Robert appeared during the routine. All judges gave the performance 10s, for a perfect 40; Robert later described it as “healing.” ABC News Australia’s report on the finale covers that tribute and the result.
#1 Best Overall
| Performance | Dedication and song | What happened on stage | Score established by the cited report |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 14, 2025 contemporary | Terri Irwin; Phil Collins’s “You’ll Be in My Heart” | Terri joined Robert and Carson at the end. | Not stated in the indexed Yahoo article. |
| Later foxtrot | Steve Irwin; Leona Lewis’s “Footprints in the Sand” | Bindi joined them; archival images of Steve with baby Robert appeared. | 40 points, with 10s from all judges, according to ABC News Australia. |
The later father tribute’s score should not be transferred to the earlier dance for Terri. The available reporting does not establish a perfect score for the October 14 routine.

Robert and Carson opened season 34 with a jive to Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild” at the September 2025 premiere. Good Morning America reported that judge Derek Hough called it “probably the best first dance I’ve ever seen on this show.” That was Hough’s opinion about the premiere jive, not a rating of either family tribute. Good Morning America’s season 34 coverage reported the premiere reaction.

What can—and cannot—be concluded
- The dance described as the emotional mother tribute was dedicated to Terri, not Steve.
- The perfect 40 belongs to Robert’s later foxtrot for Steve, not the October 14 contemporary routine.
- The TikTok framing may resonate as a reflection on Robert’s family and career, but the available indexed description does not establish Steve’s exact words or prove that he intended a particular future for his children.
