Yes. Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as Tony Stark/Iron Man in two planned attractions at Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. Disney’s current plan is to open both in 2028, though it has not announced a specific date.
Where the attractions are planned
Both rides are part of an expansion of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, inside Disneyland Resort in California. Disney says the expansion will double the size of the land. These attractions are not at Disneyland Paris or another Disney resort. Disney’s D23 2026 update provides the current opening-year plan and attraction details; the 2024 Disneyland Press Room fact sheet had previously described the concepts.
How the two attractions differ
| Attraction | Premise | Announced experience |
|---|---|---|
| Avengers Infinity Defense | A mission to reassemble the Avengers and battle King Thanos. | Large physical sets blended with media scenes, taking guests to Asgard, Wakanda and New York City. |
| Stark Flight Lab | A visit to Tony Stark’s workshop for a flight-technology test. | Two-person gyro-kinetic pods move on a track, transfer to a large robot arm and enter a simulated flight with high-speed maneuvers. |
What happens in Avengers Infinity Defense?
Guests begin as new recruits, receiving a pre-mission briefing from Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani. The announced mission is to reassemble the Avengers and fight King Thanos across several locations. Disney names Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Downey as Iron Man among the returning performers.
What happens in Stark Flight Lab?
In the announced concept, riders enter Stark’s workshop and board two-person “gyro-kinetic pods.” The pods travel along a track and stop at a giant robot arm, which lifts them into a simulated flight sequence. Disney says the experience will include high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and other Avengers. The announced performers are Downey as Iron Man, Mackie as Captain America and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.

Walt Disney Imagineering president Bruce Vaughn described the transfer between track and arm as unprecedented in a theme park: “Transferring from a track to a robot arm and then back again – nothing like this has ever been done before in a theme park, and we’re so excited about it.” Downey said of taking part in the Imagineering work, “It’s the privilege of a lifetime to be invited.” Disney shared those remarks in its March 8, 2025 SXSW update.
When are the rides expected to open?
Disney’s latest stated plan is 2028 for both attractions. The announcement gives an opening year, not a fixed day, and the rides have not opened. Disney’s D23 2026 roundup also lists the 2028 plan. Dates and details remain subject to change; tickets for these unopened attractions are not established by the announcements.
