What did the tributes say about him?
The statements emphasized more than a list of celebrated films. The DGA recalled a long professional relationship and recognized Reiner’s directing work; SAG-AFTRA highlighted his standing in the industry; and friends described a creative career that moved among several forms and genres. Obama’s tribute paired Reiner’s storytelling with his civic engagement.
That breadth is central to understanding why tributes came from across film and television. Reiner worked as a writer, director, producer and actor, and his career spanned more than six decades, according to the Los Angeles Times obituary. The obituary names This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally… and A Few Good Men among his films. Los Angeles Times obituary
