Rob Reiner backed Bruce Springsteen in his dispute with Donald Trump, while disputing a passage in Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s book Original Sin about an angry remark at Doug Emhoff. Reiner acknowledged shouting in frustration at a 2024 debate-watch gathering, but said he was not shouting at Emhoff. Representatives for the book stood by their reporting; the accounts remain in dispute.
What Rob Reiner said about Bruce Springsteen
In an interview reported by Rolling Stone on December 15, 2025, Reiner said Springsteen was “a hundred percent right” in the dispute with Donald Trump described in the article. That is Reiner’s view of the dispute, not an independent finding about its merits.

Did Rob Reiner yell at Doug Emhoff?
Rolling Stone summarized Original Sin as describing Reiner shouting in frustration during a Los Angeles gathering where people were watching Joe Biden’s 2024 debate. The book’s account portrayed Reiner as directing an angry remark at Emhoff.
Reiner acknowledged that he yelled, saying, “I did say that. There’s no question about it.” He said the words were “we’re fucked,” but described himself as “yelling at the wind,” not at Emhoff. He denied saying “because of you,” and said he was frustrated and would not blame Emhoff for Biden’s debate performance.

What the book’s representatives said
A spokesperson for Tapper and Thompson said the authors stood by their reporting, which they said was confirmed by people in the room: “Jake and Alex stand by the reporting that has been confirmed by numerous sources in the room.” Rolling Stone also reported that book representatives provided a source recollection supporting the disputed wording; the source was not named.
Reiner’s denial and the representatives’ response are competing accounts. The published report does not independently establish the exact words exchanged or resolve whether the remark was directed at Emhoff.
