What happened?
The Reiners were found dead at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later announced that a grand jury indictment charged Nick Reiner with two counts of murder. The County said the indictment also alleges multiple murders, lying in wait, and personal use of a knife.
District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said the indictment added a special-circumstance allegation that the murders were committed by means of lying in wait. The alleged conduct has not been established in court. The County states that the charges are allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

What is the latest reported legal status?
On September 15, 2026, the Associated Press reported that Nick Reiner had pleaded not guilty twice and prosecutors would not pursue the death penalty. If convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole, AP reported. That potential sentence is conditional on a conviction; it is not an outcome already reached by the court.
The County’s August 12 announcement listed a September 15 pretrial hearing and said the investigation remained active with the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division. The available reporting does not establish the outcome of that hearing, a trial date, or a verdict.
