What the documentary is about
The film centers the experiences of Black student pioneers at Mississippi State University (MSU). Rather than treating integration only as an institutional milestone, it follows students who came after Richard Holmes and lets former students describe their experiences in their own words. The Jackson Advocate reports that Holmes became the first Black student to enroll at MSU in 1965. The documentary’s focus is on those who followed him—not a claim that one person’s story can stand in for every student’s experience.

The Jackson Advocate names former students Johnny Barnes, Bessie Minor Brown, Robert Barnes, Harvest Collier, Coleman Wicks, Calvin McGill, and Jerry Randolph as participants. The newspaper’s report credits Brett Thornburg as editor and co-producer and David Garraway as co-producer.

MSU’s post also includes interview transcript material, but the accessible page does not clearly identify the speaker for each passage. Those excerpts should not be attributed to a particular person without confirming them against the film or a reliable transcript.
