Rihanna performed a 19-song set in Jamnagar, India, on March 1, 2024, at a private pre-wedding celebration for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. It was her first full-length concert since 2016, according to contemporary coverage—not her first live appearance in the intervening years.
When and where did Rihanna perform?
The performance took place on Friday, March 1, 2024, in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India. The Associated Press reported that the Ambani family’s three-day pre-wedding celebration began that day, with Rihanna among its performers. AP’s March 2 report and its March 1 preview place the event in Jamnagar.

Was it the wedding ceremony?
No. Rihanna performed at a private celebration ahead of the wedding, not at the couple’s wedding ceremony. The Ambani family’s event was part of a multi-day pre-wedding celebration; Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant were expected to marry later in 2024. TIME’s contemporary explainer also describes the gathering as a pre-wedding event.
Why was the concert notable?
Contemporary reports described the Jamnagar show as Rihanna’s first full-length performance since 2016. That milestone refers to a full concert, not to every live appearance: she also performed at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, as the Associated Press reported. NME’s March 2 coverage uses the more precise description “first full-length performance since 2016.”

The Associated Press described the guest list as nearly 1,200 people. That is a reported estimate of people invited, not a verified count of those who attended. The gathering’s scale helps explain why the Jamnagar performance drew international attention, but the reported figure should not be mistaken for an attendance tally. AP’s report gives the guest-list estimate.
