Ricki Lake said in February 2024 that she and her husband, Ross Burningham, had each lost more than 30 pounds after committing to get healthier in October 2023. In a later interview recounted by Parade in May 2026, Lake described a 40-pound loss. Those are reports of her personal experience at different points—not a single figure or evidence that one diet or activity caused the results.
What did Ricki Lake say about losing 30 pounds?
In a post dated February 24, 2024, Lake said she had made a commitment to get healthier on October 26, 2023. She wrote that she and Burningham had each lost “30+ lbs” over roughly four months. ABC News reported that Lake had only begun weighing herself on November 15, 2023, so the figure reflects her own account and the period she described, not a documented measurement series.
Lake said she wanted to share their experience because they had done it “without relying on a pharmaceutical,” then added, “Not that there is anything wrong with that.” She also wrote that at 55 and in perimenopause she had worried her body might not lose weight as it had before. ABC News’ report of Lake’s February 2024 post gives the original context.
What did Lake say she did?
In a May 2024 ABC News interview, Lake described making lifestyle changes with her husband. The interview description reported a 35-pound loss at that point. Its transcript says she hired a personal chef, hiked about three miles each morning, practiced intermittent fasting, cut back on bread and sugar as part of a keto diet, did Pilates, and tracked her sleep. These are details of the routine she described, not proof that any one change produced a particular amount of weight loss.

How does the later 40-pound figure fit?
A May 4, 2026 Parade report says Lake later told Maury Povich that she had lost 40 pounds. According to Parade, she recalled starting her food plan at 53 and described keto-style eating, intermittent fasting, daily three-mile hikes, and Pilates three to four days a week. She also said she wore a glucose monitor for six months, along with a watch and an Oura ring, and characterized hiking as meditation.

This later account is not a correction that makes the 2024 “30+” figure inaccurate: it is a separate, later-reported recollection with a different number. Parade reports Lake’s account; it does not independently verify the weight or establish the effect of the routine or devices. Parade’s May 2026 report provides the later details.
Did Ricki Lake use weight-loss medication?
For the effort she discussed in 2024, Lake said she and Burningham did not rely on a pharmaceutical. She explicitly said she did not object to medication for other people. The 2026 Parade report likewise presents her later account as weight loss without a GLP-1 medication. Her personal choice is not evidence that medication is unnecessary or unsuitable for someone else; these reports do not compare treatments or offer individualized medical advice.

What the reported numbers can—and cannot—tell you
The figures are Lake’s reported personal results: more than 30 pounds for each spouse in the February 2024 post, 35 pounds in the May 2024 interview description, and 40 pounds in the May 2026 retrospective account. They should not be treated as a guaranteed outcome, a population-level expectation, or proof that keto, fasting, hiking, Pilates, or tracking devices caused weight loss. The reporting does not establish a medically supervised program or isolate the contribution of any single factor.
