Richard Simmons’s staff shared a social-media post he had planned for Sunday, July 14, 2024, the day after his death. In the image, Simmons wears a NASA-style spacesuit; the caption reads: “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.”
What was Richard Simmons’s final planned message?
The caption attributed to Simmons by his staff was: “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.” The accompanying image showed him in a spacesuit against a space-themed background. ABC News reported the image and caption on July 22, 2024.
When was the post intended to appear, and when did staff share it?
Simmons’s staff said he had prepared the post for Sunday, July 14. He died on July 13, 2024, aged 76. Staff shared the prepared post on July 20, after his death. Rolling Stone Canada reported the planned timing on July 21, and ABC News reported his death and the post’s publication date on July 22.
Why was the post prepared in advance?
Staff explained that Simmons worked ahead on social-media posts and revised them before publication. As quoted by Rolling Stone Canada, his staff said: “He always chose his photos and wrote his captions for the upcoming weekend by Friday.” The July 14 message was therefore a planned post later shared by staff—not a post published by Simmons himself after his death.
