Prepared before he died on July 13 at age 76, the post paired an astronaut-style photo with a short message about the moon and stars.
What was in Richard Simmons’ final planned post?
The image showed Simmons wearing a NASA-style astronaut suit against a colorful, space-themed background. Its caption read: “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.” ABC News described the image and caption in its July 22, 2024 report.
When was it prepared and shared?
Simmons had prepared the post for Sunday, July 14, the day after he died. His staff shared it on July 20, explaining that it was the post he had planned for his followers. Simmons died on July 13, 2024, aged 76.
Why had Simmons prepared the post in advance?
Staff said he routinely worked ahead on social media posts. He chose photos and wrote captions for the upcoming weekend by Friday, then revisited drafts and made changes until he was satisfied. Their account, quoted in ABC News’ coverage, describes the July 14 post as part of that regular preparation—not a message written after his death.
