Shore later said Simmons wanted him to make the film, but Simmons’s brother Lenny disputed that account and said Richard never contacted Shore. The available reports document conflicting claims; they do not independently establish whether a private conversation took place.
What did Richard Simmons say about the biopic?
On January 17, 2024, after news of the proposed film emerged, Simmons wrote on Facebook: “I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read.” He also said he no longer had a manager or publicist and wanted to live quietly and peacefully, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The Wolper Organization, the Warner Bros. subsidiary behind the project, said it would respect Simmons’s wish for privacy while planning a film that honored him. That statement did not change Simmons’s position that he had not approved the movie.
What did Pauly Shore say about proceeding?
In a January 21, 2024, interview with Inside Edition, Shore acknowledged Simmons did not want to be involved but said he still wanted to make the film: “I want to respect his privacy, he doesn’t want to be involved, but we want to make a beautiful film about him.” Asked whether he would proceed no matter what Simmons said, Shore replied, “Yes, but anything can change.” The report said Shore had never spoken to Simmons at that point. Why did Simmons’s family dispute Shore’s later account?
In July 2024, Shore told TMZ that Simmons “wanted me” to make the biopic and questioned whether Simmons himself had written posts criticizing it. The Independent reported that Richard’s brother Lenny responded in a family statement shared by Simmons’s staff.
Lenny said Richard wrote his own social-media posts, working on them in advance and reading them to Lenny and Cathy. He also directly denied that Richard had contacted Shore: “What he has NOT done was to text, email or call Pauly with anything; not even to wish him ‘Good Luck’ as Pauly has stated many times.” The Independent’s July 31, 2024 report

That leaves two conflicting public accounts: Shore’s claim that Simmons wanted him to make the film, and the family’s assertion that Richard neither authored posts on someone else’s behalf nor contacted Shore. The cited reporting does not independently resolve whether any private contact occurred.
Was Simmons pursuing a separate biopic?
In April 2024, Simmons posted that he did not approve Shore’s movie and was in talks with major studios about making his own biopic, according to The Independent. Shore responded on Instagram by arguing that he was the right person to play Simmons. The report describes talks, not a completed or released alternative film; it does not establish that Simmons’s proposed project moved forward. The Independent

That is a dated status, not confirmation that the movie is currently in production or has been released. The Independent
