John Cena’s You Can’t See Me arrived on May 10, 2005, as both a hip-hop album and an extension of the WWE persona he was building at the time. Made with rapper Tha Trademarc, it put a two-MC concept at the center of the record while including WWE-associated songs such as “My Time Is Now” and “Basic Thuganomics.” Its chart results showed a crossover audience, though the figures refer to different charts and territories.
What was John Cena’s rap album called, and when did it come out?
The album was titled You Can’t See Me. WWE and Apple Music list its release date as May 10, 2005. Apple Music classifies it as Hip-Hop/Rap, credits John Cena and Tha Trademarc, and lists 17 songs with a total running time of 1 hour 5 minutes. The catalog entry identifies the release as ℗ 2005 WWE, Inc.
WWE’s announcement said the album had been recorded in 2004 at Chaos and Order Basscamp Studios. The release was therefore not simply a collection of entrance music: it was a full-length rap project built around Cena’s partnership with another MC.
Who is Tha Trademarc, and what was the two-MC idea?
Tha Trademarc is Marc Predka, the rapper who collaborated with Cena on the album. WWE’s announcement described the pair trading verses, making their back-and-forth presence part of the record’s design rather than treating Trademarc as an incidental guest.

Cena explained the creative intention in WWE’s May 2005 release announcement: “You almost never hear a rap crew today working like EPMD or 3rd Bass. I wanted to bring that style back a little and get away from one MC up there doing his thing.” That is Cena’s stated aim for the project; it should not be mistaken for an independent critical assessment of how successfully the album achieved it.
How did the album connect to Cena’s WWE identity?
You Can’t See Me came out during Cena’s emergence as a WWE star and folded recognizable parts of that identity into a separate album-length release. WWE’s contemporary interview identifies “My Time Is Now” as the first track and says “Basic Thuganomics” was also included. Those songs connect the album to Cena’s wrestling presentation, while the project’s larger frame is a collaboration with Tha Trademarc.

“Bad, Bad Man” and its A-Team parody
The label announcement called “Bad, Bad Man” the album’s first single and described its video as an A-Team parody. The video featured Cena, Bumpy Knuckles—also known as Freddie Foxx—Tha Trademarc, and Gary Coleman. The concept placed Cena’s wrestling persona inside a pop-culture send-up, giving the album a visual promotional hook beyond its WWE-associated tracks.

What did Cena later say about the recording sessions?
In a 2025 retrospective, Billboard quoted Cena describing a much larger body of material from the sessions: “There’s like 70 lost tracks of the album that never made it out.” That is Cena’s recollection, not an independently audited count. It suggests the released 17-track album represented only part of what he said had been recorded.

Why revisit the album?
You Can’t See Me is notable as a snapshot of Cena joining his wrestling-era identity to a full-length rap collaboration. Its documented features are unusually concrete: the two-MC premise with Tha Trademarc, tracks associated with Cena’s WWE presentation, an A-Team-themed lead single video, and measurable chart entries in the United States, United Kingdom, and Scotland. The sources establish those details, but do not provide a named independent critic’s assessment or enough evidence for a track-by-track critical verdict.
