How did he get on The Voice?
His wife, Olivia, submitted his application without telling him. De Melo later told 7NEWS, “She applied for me without telling me, and the rest is history.” After his Blind Audition, coach LeAnn Rimes used her Ultimate Block to secure him for her team.
What inspired De Melo to pursue music?
In the same PerthNow interview, published before the finale on 26 October 2024, De Melo said his music journey took on new meaning in 2012, after his friend Josh Henderson died at 21 following an incident during a football game. Henderson’s mother asked De Melo to sing at the wake. De Melo said the experience prompted him to give singing a serious try, write original songs and perform locally.

Before the final, he described the distance between his FIFO work and the televised contest as hard to imagine: “I personally didn’t think I would get this far, considering all the talent that’s up there and just coming out of the mine doing FIFO . . . no one from Perth ever kind of makes it like that,” he told PerthNow.
How did the 2024 finale unfold?
The grand finale aired on 27 October 2024. De Melo performed The Animals’ “The House of the Rising Sun” and sang Coldplay’s “Fix You” in a duet with Rimes. He won the public vote after a week-long voting period, ahead of Annie Jones, SKŸE and Jaedyn Randell, according to The Music. Speaking to 7NEWS after the result, De Melo said, “I never thought I’d get this far, this is crazy.” Rimes congratulated him: “I’m so proud. You deserve every bit of this moment, and I’m so honoured to have been on this journey with you. You are incredible.”

What did The Voice 2024 winner receive?
Reports described De Melo’s winner’s package as $100,000 in cash, a music masterclass and an industry recording development package. The Music reported that the development package was with Studios 301 and noted that the 2024 winner did not receive a Universal Music recording contract. The development opportunity is therefore distinct from a record deal.
