Reports published in August and September 2024 said Romy Lauer, Matt Lauer’s daughter, received a summons after a July 5 crash in Southampton, New York. The accounts said a Jeep Wrangler struck a fence and sign, and that part of its license plate was left at the scene. No police statement or court record establishing the incident details or final legal outcome is available in the cited coverage.
What reports say happened
The most specific account, relayed by The Daily Caller from Page Six, placed the crash at about 4 a.m. on July 5, 2024, on North Sea Mecox Road in Southampton. It said a neighbor called 911 after hearing a crash; police reportedly found a damaged fence and sign and a license plate, but no driver or vehicle. The Daily Beast also attributed its account to Page Six, reporting that a Jeep Wrangler struck the fence and sign during Fourth of July weekend and that the plate helped identify the driver. These are media accounts, not details independently confirmed by a published police record.
The Daily Caller’s August 29, 2024 report and The Daily Beast’s August 28, 2024 report both relay details attributed to Page Six.
What is reported about the summons
The Daily Beast said law enforcement confirmed to Page Six that Lauer received a summons for leaving the scene. A September 8, 2024 PEOPLE report, syndicated by Yahoo, described it as a traffic ticket for leaving the scene. PEOPLE noted that Suffolk County Police had not immediately responded to its request for comment. The difference in wording does not establish a separate charge or a court finding.

What the coverage does—and does not—establish
The PEOPLE report said an unnamed source characterized the crash as minor and close to Lauer’s home, and said there was no DUI charge. That is an attributed source account, not an independently verified police or court record. The same source predicted a settlement rather than a trial; a prediction is not confirmation that a settlement occurred.
The South China Morning Post’s September 5, 2024 profile likewise presented the crash as an event reported by U.S. media. The coverage cited here does not include an official police statement, court docket, or on-record statement from Lauer or her representative, so it does not establish a final case disposition.
