Renée Zellweger wore a soft pixie crop for her British Vogue cover shoot published on January 15, 2025. Hairstylist Syd Hayes described the cut’s inspirations and how he shaped and styled it; the feature documents that shoot, not Zellweger’s hairstyle in October 2026.
What the 2025 look was—and what it was not
British Vogue’s February 2025 cover feature showed Zellweger with a short, softly textured crop. Calling her “unrecognizable” is a subjective reaction, not a description of the haircut’s construction. The dated feature does not establish whether she still wears it now. The references behind the crop
Hayes said he drew on David Bowie’s floppy fringe and jagged ends, as well as the piecey texture associated with the early-2000s release of the first Bridget Jones film. He framed the cut as a look for Zellweger herself, rather than an attempt to recreate her character’s hairstyle.
How the cut was shaped and styled
Close at the nape, irregular at the ends
The nape was cut close with clippers, then refined with scissors and razor blades to create light, irregular ends. That combination gives a useful salon description: short and close at the back, with softness and separation through the ends—not a claim that one reference photo or tool will produce an identical result on every head of hair.

A wrap-dry for movement and texture
For the shoot, Hayes used a wrap-dry technique: with a vent brush and hairdryer, he directed the hair in different directions while wrapping it around the head. The feature identifies the dryer as a BaByliss Air Power Pro.
Hayes layered products for a lived-in, textured finish. The shoot feature names Hair By Sam McKnight Cool Girl Superlift Volumising Spray, Hershesons Almost Everything Cream, and Clarins Sun Care Oil Mist for Body and Hair SPF 30. Those are products identified as used for this shoot, not evidence that Zellweger uses them routinely or that any one product recreates the cut.

How to discuss a similar cut with a stylist
Hayes advised people considering a major crop to bring reference images and make sure they and their stylist share a vision. He told British Vogue: “When you’re cutting someone’s hair short, they’ve got to want to do it – it’s them who has to love it.” He also said: “You and your stylist both need to see the same vision or you’re going to end up with something you don’t want.”

- Ends: Discuss whether you want light, jagged separation or a more even finish.
