Her reach was reflected in recognition and sales figures reported by her publisher. Simon & Schuster’s undated author biography, accessed in 2026, reports more than 15 million records sold and 11 Billboard Award nominations in 2009, describing the nominations as a record for a female regional Mexican performer at the time. The same publisher reports 15 gold, 15 platinum and five double-platinum records. These are publisher-reported figures, not independently audited totals (Simon & Schuster author biography).
Why her candor mattered to fans
Rivera’s public story included difficult experiences as well as professional success. Simon & Schuster’s description of her authorized autobiography says she wrote about abuse, divorce, body image, working in a male-dominated music industry and raising her children. That range helps explain why accounts of perseverance became part of how audiences understood her: she presented achievement alongside challenges rather than as a life untouched by them.

In the publisher’s page for Unbreakable: My Story, My Way, Rivera is quoted: “I can’t get caught up in the negative because that destroys you. Perhaps trying to move away from my problems and focus on the positive is the best I can do. I am a woman like any other, and ugly things happen to me like any other woman. The number of times I have fallen down is the number of times I have gotten up.” (Simon & Schuster.)
