She then built a varied career across drama, musicals, horror, science fiction and television, including Dune and Silo.
Rebecca Ferguson’s career timeline
| Milestone | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Nya tider | Ferguson’s screen career began with the Swedish soap opera when she was 15. Netflix Tudum’s October 2, 2025 profile described her as having worked continuously for 25 years since that first role; that figure is the profile’s dated framing, not a separately measured career statistic. Netflix Tudum |
| The White Queen | The BBC miniseries brought an early prominent period-drama role. TIME reported in 2015 that Ferguson received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. TIME |
| Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) | Ferguson entered the franchise as Ilsa Faust, a morally complicated agent whose loyalties shift and who takes an active part in the action. TIME’s contemporaneous interview described the role’s intended qualities as “independent” and “strong,” and as “Ethan Hunt’s match.” TIME |
| Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) | Returning as Ilsa helped move Ferguson toward stardom, according to the Guardian’s 2018 profile. Ferguson described Ilsa and Ethan as equals: “These are people with a genuine equality between them.” The Guardian |
| Film work across genres | Her credits include The Girl on the Train, Florence Foster Jenkins, Life, The Greatest Showman, Doctor Sleep and Dune. Vanity Fair’s October 20, 2021 career timeline records these projects, but it is not a complete current filmography. Vanity Fair |
| Dune and Silo | These science-fiction roles extended her presence in the genre: in Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, she plays Lady Jessica, Paul Atreides’s mother and a Bene Gesserit. She later led Apple TV’s series Silo. Los Angeles Times |
Why Ilsa Faust was a turning point
Rogue Nation gave Ferguson a part that could stand alongside the franchise’s central hero rather than simply orbit him. Ilsa is an agent with shifting loyalties, and the character’s agency helped make her memorable within an action series built around Ethan Hunt. Ferguson’s description of the pair as genuinely equal captures what distinguished the dynamic: Ilsa was a participant in the story’s choices and risks, not just a supporting presence.

The Guardian’s 2018 profile connected her return in Fallout with a move toward stardom. The significance of the role is not a single measurable career statistic; it is the way it made Ferguson visible to a much wider international audience and established a character she could revisit.
A career that did not stay in one genre
After and alongside the Mission: Impossible films, Ferguson took roles in projects with markedly different tones. The Girl on the Train and Life offered thriller and science-fiction settings; Florence Foster Jenkins and The Greatest Showman brought period comedy-drama and musical work; Doctor Sleep moved into horror. The breadth matters: her rise was not simply a transition from one action franchise to another.

Vanity Fair’s 2021 career timeline is useful for tracing that range and Ferguson’s reflections on her work, while Netflix Tudum’s 2025 profile provides later career context. Neither is a substitute for a complete, continually updated filmography.
From Lady Jessica to leading Silo
Dune
In Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, Ferguson plays Lady Jessica, Paul Atreides’s mother and a member of the Bene Gesserit. The Los Angeles Times reported that Villeneuve regarded Jessica as the film’s strongest character. Ferguson later recalled her initial reluctance to take a role framed around motherhood or status: “I didn’t want to play a mum or a queen or a countess,” she told Vogue Scandinavia in June 2024. Silo
Ferguson went on to lead Apple TV’s Silo, extending her science-fiction work from film into television. The confirmed career point is her leading role in the series; a detailed account of its adaptation history is not necessary to understand this next step.

Ferguson’s path is best understood as accumulated visibility and range: a teenage start in Swedish television, a period-drama breakthrough that earned awards recognition, a franchise role that introduced her to a broader audience, and film and television work across genres. Dune and Silo added major science-fiction roles without narrowing the story of her career to science fiction alone.
