Rebecca Black’s Boiler Room performance was identified as Boiler Room: DC, not a London set. It introduced many viewers to a very different chapter of her career: the singer who became famous at 13 with 2011’s “Friday” was now steering a dance-floor set that closed with the crowd singing that song over Charli xcx’s “360” instrumental.
What happened in Rebecca Black’s Boiler Room set?
Black opened her first Boiler Room performance with a techno edit of Hannah Montana’s “Everybody Makes Mistakes,” then moved among contemporary club tracks and pop edits. For the finale, she laid the vocal of “Friday” over the instrumental of Charli xcx’s “360.” The audience sang along, turning the song that once made her a viral punchline into a communal club moment.
Black later told GRAMMY.com: “It was honestly one of the best times I’ve ever had DJing.”
Was Rebecca Black’s Boiler Room set in London?
The performance discussed here was identified as Boiler Room: DC by GRAMMY.com, which links to Boiler Room’s video under that title. PerthNow’s October 3, 2024 report described Black re-emerging in London, but also compared the set with Charli xcx’s earlier London Boiler Room appearance. That framing appears to conflate the two events; the available event identification supports Washington, D.C., not London.

Why did the set feel like a transformation?
From viral teen hit to a career with more control
“Friday” made Black famous in 2011, when she was 13. As GRAMMY.com recounts, the sudden attention made her both famous and a punchline overnight. In the years that followed, she pursued greater creative control and released the EP RE/BL in 2017, Rebecca Black Was Here in 2021, and the full-length Let Her Burn in 2023.
The “13 years later” framing describes the rounded interval between “Friday”’s emergence and the 2024 Boiler Room set. It captures a change in public image, but not a sudden return after a career spent only in the shadow of one song: Black had continued releasing music and developing as a performer.

DJing gave her a different way to create
In a 2025 ELLE interview, Black said she began DJing after becoming immersed in queer spaces, clubs, and hyperpop. She described it as a different creative muscle from performing her own songs, one that makes her more comfortable responding in the moment. The Boiler Room set made that distinction visible: she was shaping a room’s energy through selection and transitions, not simply presenting her own catalog.
What has Rebecca Black released since the Boiler Room set?
Black’s 2025 EP Salvation continued her move toward dance music. The Associated Press described the seven-track release as drawing on techno, garage, and house, and framed it as a statement of autonomy after the challenges of her early fame. The review called it her fourth EP. It followed Let Her Burn, her 2023 full-length, and showed that the dance-oriented sound of her DJ work also belonged to an ongoing recording career.

The set did not erase the impact of “Friday”; it changed the context in which audiences heard it. Black has described shifting her focus toward listeners who see her for who she is, rather than expecting her to prove herself in response to her early notoriety. The Boiler Room performance offered a vivid example: the old hit remained recognizable, but it was part of a broader musical identity—as a singer, songwriter, and DJ.
