Musicians including Trisha Yearwood and Chris Isaak paid tribute to Raul Malo after the Mavericks’ singer and frontman died at 60 in December 2025. Isaak remembered Malo as a friend and hero and the music he left behind. The posts followed a pair of Mavericks celebration shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, which Malo was too ill to attend.
What musicians said about Raul Malo
Chris Isaak’s social post, as reported by NME, said: “It hurts to lose a friend and a hero…but he left us a treasure of music that lives on.” Trisha Yearwood was also among the artists reported to have posted a tribute. Who Raul Malo was
Malo was the lead singer and frontman of The Mavericks, the band he co-founded in 1989. He died at age 60 after battling cancer, according to the Associated Press and contemporaneous reporting.
A statement from Malo’s family, reproduced by GBH, remembered him this way: “No one embodied life and love, joy and passion, family, friends, music and adventure the way our beloved Raul did.” The band’s own statement described Malo as “a force of human nature, with an infectious energy.”

The Ryman shows took place before his death
The Mavericks’ “Dance The Night Away” shows were scheduled for December 5 and 6, 2025, at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The events celebrated the band’s history and catalog, with other artists performing Mavericks songs, according to MusicRow. Malo was hospitalized and missed the performances; they were held shortly before his death. They were a planned celebration of the group’s music, distinct from the tributes musicians posted in response to his passing.
