Gyomei Himejima’s chained axe and flail take the top spot in this fan ranking of Demon Slayer’s most memorable Nichirin weapons. The order weighs four things: visual distinction, how clearly a weapon complements its wielder’s fighting style, unusual handling demands, and importance to the story. It is an editorial ranking—not an official or canonically settled order—and a distinctive weapon is not automatically a stronger one.
How this ranking works
“Best” here means the most compelling weapon as a piece of character and story design, not the weapon that would win a hypothetical duel. Visual impact, tactical fit, handling demands, and story relevance are considered together. The ranking focuses on ten notable weapons or weapon sets, rather than claiming to catalogue every Nichirin weapon in the series.
- Visual distinction: Is the weapon’s shape or presentation immediately recognizable?
- Tactical fit: Does its form clearly support the wielder’s established fighting approach?
- Handling demands: Does it call for distinctive control, reach, flexibility, or coordination?
- Story impact: Does the weapon matter in a memorable character or plot moment?
The best Nichirin weapons, ranked
1. Gyomei Himejima’s chained axe and flail
Gyomei’s weapon is the most striking departure from the familiar sword silhouette: a hand axe and spiked flail joined by a chain. Its reach and linked components give it a distinctive visual language, while its use demands precise control of both ends. That combination makes the weapon feel inseparable from its wielder’s formidable, unconventional fighting style. It earns the top spot for design and tactical identity—not because an unusual shape proves it is objectively the strongest.
2. Mitsuri Kanroji’s flexible Nichirin sword
Mitsuri’s blade is remarkable because it behaves unlike a conventional rigid sword. Its flexibility gives her attacks a sweeping, ribbon-like quality and makes the weapon’s movement part of the spectacle. That form also implies demanding control: a flexible blade must be directed differently from a straight one. The result is one of the clearest examples of a weapon built around its wielder’s individual style.

3. Tengen Uzui’s paired Nichirin cleavers
Tengen’s oversized paired blades create a bold silhouette and make two-weapon combat central to his presentation. Their size and paired use suggest a demanding combination of timing, coordination, and spatial awareness. They are memorable not simply for being large, but because the dual-blade configuration helps distinguish Tengen’s combat identity from the many sword users in the series.
4. Shinobu Kocho’s slender Nichirin sword
Shinobu’s thin, needle-like blade is a purposeful contrast to the heavier-looking weapons elsewhere in the ranking. Its design suits a fighting approach that relies on precision rather than conventional cutting power, and her use of poison makes that difference meaningful. The weapon is an especially coherent piece of character design: its appearance, tactical purpose, and wielder all point in the same direction.

5. Inosuke Hashibira’s two chipped Nichirin swords
Inosuke’s paired, deliberately chipped swords are among the series’ most recognizable weapon configurations. The official Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie MUGEN TRAIN Anime Official USA Website character entry describes him this way: “Using Beast Breathing, he wields two chipped Nichirin Swords with flair.” The quotation establishes his weapon configuration and breathing style; it does not establish that his swords are stronger than anyone else’s.
The rough, paired blades suit Inosuke’s feral presentation and make his weapons look unlike a polished standard katana. Their visual character and close connection to his fighting identity put them high on this list, even though the ranking is not a contest of damage or combat outcomes.

6. Obanai Iguro’s curved Nichirin sword
Obanai’s unusually curved blade stands apart from the straight swords most viewers associate with the Corps. Its shape gives his weapon a distinctive appearance and makes it feel tailored to his particular style rather than interchangeable with another swordsman’s. Its strongest case in this ranking is that visual and tactical individuality; the shape alone should not be read as evidence of greater power.
7. Kyojuro Rengoku’s flame-marked Nichirin sword
Rengoku’s sword is memorable for how cleanly its presentation reinforces his Flame Breathing identity. The flame motif makes it instantly recognizable and gives the weapon a strong visual connection to its wielder. It does not radically depart from the familiar sword form, but its symbolic clarity and place in Rengoku’s story make it one of the franchise’s most effective designs.

8. Muichiro Tokito’s Nichirin sword
Muichiro’s sword is less mechanically unusual than the top entries, but its restrained design suits a character whose fighting style is associated with mist and misdirection. Its appeal lies in atmosphere and character fit rather than an unconventional construction. That makes it a subtler design, but still a purposeful one.
9. Sanemi Shinazugawa’s Nichirin sword
Sanemi’s weapon retains the familiar katana form, so it is less visually singular than the paired or flexible weapons above it. Its ranking reflects how effectively a straightforward blade can support a forceful, aggressive fighter without needing a radically different silhouette. It is a strong character fit, though not one of the series’ most unusual constructions.

10. Giyu Tomioka’s Nichirin sword
Giyu’s sword is the most conventional design in this selection, and that is precisely why it ranks lower on a list emphasizing distinction. Its visual simplicity suits his reserved presentation, while its role as a familiar sword keeps the focus on the wielder rather than an elaborate weapon form. A lower place here means less unusual design—not lesser skill or combat ability.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Nichirin weapon would be hardest to master?
There is no canonically established answer that ranks the weapons by difficulty. As an editorial inference based on their forms, Gyomei’s chain-linked axe and flail and Mitsuri’s flexible blade appear to demand especially distinctive control compared with a conventional rigid sword. That is a judgment about handling complexity, not a verified ranking of training difficulty or proof that either weapon is superior.
