This ranking weighs premise, storytelling, character work, scale and ease of entry—not audience scores or an objective measure of quality. The best next watch depends on whether you want a puzzle, a survival story, a reality-bending thriller or a saga that keeps widening its horizon.
Apple’s curated US sci-fi collection includes Severance, Silo, Dark Matter, Foundation and Invasion; its international collection also features those titles. Apple’s page is curated rather than a complete catalog, and what appears or streams can differ by country. For All Mankind belongs in the conversation as a major alternate-history space drama, though it is not among the titles named in that collection.
How this ranking works
The order reflects a balance of five editorial criteria: how distinctive the speculative premise is, how well the story develops it, whether the characters give it emotional weight, how ambitious its scale feels, and how easy it is to settle into. A slower or more demanding series can still rank highly if its payoff and character work justify the wait. The list is a guide to different kinds of sci-fi, not a claim that every viewer will agree on a single best show.
1. Severance
Severance turns a sharp speculative question—what if work and private life were divided inside a person’s mind?—into an unnerving workplace mystery. Its controlled setting and precise atmosphere make the idea immediately legible, while its characters give the central conceit human stakes beyond the puzzle of how the system works.
#1 Best Overall
- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
It leads this ranking for the clarity and originality of its hook, and for how naturally its mystery grows out of the premise. Choose it if you want contained, idea-driven science fiction with thriller tension. Its deliberate, clue-building pace is less suited to viewers looking for constant action or a neatly explained world from the outset.
2. For All Mankind
For All Mankind takes the opposite route from Severance: rather than compressing its speculative idea into a workplace, it expands an alternate history of space exploration across people, institutions and eras. The result is science fiction with a historical-drama frame, where ambition and personal consequences matter as much as the space program itself.
It ranks near the top for its scale and for making a broad premise legible through human lives. Start here if you want an expansive saga and enjoy stories that let political and technological consequences accumulate. It asks for more patience than a self-contained thriller, and its appeal is less about solving one central mystery than following a world taking a different path.

3. Silo
Silo is the pick for viewers drawn to a sealed community, an oppressive social order and the question of what lies beyond the world its residents know. Its dystopian mystery creates a strong engine for discovery: the setting is not just a backdrop, but a source of rules, tensions and unanswered questions.

Choose it if you want the enclosed-world intrigue of Severance with more emphasis on community and dystopian systems. Hugh Howey’s Wool is associated with the series as source material, but reading it is not a prerequisite for watching.
4. Dark Matter
Dark Matter brings science fiction into thriller territory through a reality-bending premise and questions of identity and choice. It is a natural next watch for someone who wants a propulsive story about how life might branch into radically different possibilities, rather than a slow-burn workplace or societal mystery.

Its strength in this ranking is the directness of its high-concept hook. Blake Crouch’s novel is the source material associated with the adaptation. Viewers who prefer a tightly contained setting or a long historical sweep may find the series’ more personal, thriller-shaped approach a better fit than either Silo or For All Mankind.
5. Foundation
Foundation is the broadest-scale choice here: science fiction built around a far-reaching future and civilizational ambition. Its appeal is less about an intimate mystery than about the sweep of a large speculative setting and the forces shaping it.

6. Invasion
Invasion brings an alien-threat premise to a human-scale drama. That combination makes it the choice for viewers interested in how a science-fiction crisis affects people and communities, rather than in a puzzle confined to one workplace or a single speculative mechanism.
Its placement reflects a narrower recommendation, not a claim that it is a lesser production: pick it when the prospect of an extraterrestrial threat is the draw. If you are choosing primarily for a crisp mystery, a reality-bending thriller or a sweeping alternate history, the entries above offer a more direct match.

Match the show to the experience you want rather than treating the ranking as a strict queue. If you are waiting for another season of a favorite, the closest substitute depends on what you want to carry over: atmosphere, mystery, scale or the speculative premise. A viewer asking what to watch while waiting for Silo, for instance, might prefer Severance for enclosed-world unease or Foundation for a larger imagined system, not because either is a direct copy.
