Rangeen has the makings of a sharp comedy-drama: a newspaper editor discovers his wife has been seeing a paid lover, then enters the same line of work himself. But the series’ central tension—whether to treat Adarsh’s choices as painful, absurd, or both—does not consistently become a strength. Critics have called out its tonal shifts and contrived connections; whether those shifts work will depend on how much friction you want from a story about intimacy, masculinity and sex work.
What is Rangeen about?
Rangeen is a 2025 Indian comedy-drama series. Adarsh, a straight-laced newspaper editor, discovers that his wife, Naina, has been seeing Sunny, a paid lover. In response to the humiliation and betrayal, Adarsh pursues work as a gigolo. The official Apple TV synopsis calls it “a twisted act of revenge” that draws him into the hidden world of paid intimacy and self-questioning: Apple TV’s listing.
That setup gives the show several potentially connected subjects: a marriage in crisis, the boundaries and economics of paid intimacy, and Adarsh’s attempt to recover control by entering a world he does not understand. Its central challenge is making that change in direction feel like more than a device for producing awkward encounters.
Does the comedy work?
The series asks the viewer to move between farce and emotional fallout. Adarsh’s new work can be played for comic discomfort, but the premise also depends on the hurt and imbalance within his marriage. When the comedy and drama pull in different directions, the story risks making its characters’ distress feel like a punchline rather than a source of insight.

That tonal uncertainty is a major point of disagreement in published criticism. In a one-star review for Hindustan Times, Santanu Das argued that the series cannot decide whether to empathize with Adarsh or laugh at him, and that the tonal shifts weaken emotional connection. Nandini Ramnath’s Scroll review described the show as another series seeking to normalize male sex work while showing its pitfalls. The headline called it “A scattershot and occasionally colourful contest between gigolos.” Ramnath’s available review passage also criticizes the connections between story strands as contrived and notes that Adarsh’s journalism falls away after he enters sex work. These are individual critical judgments, not a consensus verdict.
What does the premise leave room to explore?
Adarsh’s move into paid intimacy could open up a story about how men understand desire, money, vulnerability and control. It also places Naina and Sunny in the same dramatic frame, rather than making Adarsh’s discovery the only meaningful experience in the marriage. The strongest version of this story would give each character motives and boundaries beyond their usefulness to Adarsh’s crisis.

The critical question is whether Rangeen makes that room. A comic treatment need not trivialize sex work or emotional betrayal, but it does need to make clear whose perspective a joke serves and what the characters stand to lose. If the situations feel more engineered than lived-in, the provocative setup can outpace the drama it is meant to support.
Who is in the cast, and how long is the season?
Prime Video’s listing names Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajshri Deshpande, Taaruk Raina and Sheeba Chaddha. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) also lists Meghna Malik and credits Kopal Naithani and Pranjal Dua as directors. Prime Video lists nine episodes in Season 1, with runtimes of roughly 41–49 minutes; the BBFC’s episode records give runtimes of roughly 41–48 minutes.

If you are interested in a comedy-drama that uses a provocative premise to test ideas about intimacy and masculinity, Rangeen offers that conversation, though its execution has drawn criticism for uneven tone and story construction. If you need a consistently grounded drama or a comedy whose treatment of its characters feels assured, the split response from reviewers is a reason to sample an episode before committing to the season.
