In Nandini Ramnath’s review for Scroll.in, the sequel’s pleasures—sharp lines, earthy humour and Riteish Deshmukh’s quietly menacing turn—are real, but the investigation takes too long to gather momentum and repeats too much of the earlier film.
Which Raid 2 is this?
This is Raj Kumar Gupta’s 2025 Hindi film, a sequel to Raid (2018). It is not the 2014 Indonesian action film The Raid 2, a separate movie with a different cast and story. The distinction matters when looking up reviews or viewing options.
The Central Board of Film Certification record places the Hindi sequel in the late 1980s, in Bhoj, Madhya Pradesh, and describes it as IRS officer Amay Patnaik’s 75th raid. The record names Gupta as director and lists Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Supriya Pathak and Rajat Kapoor among the principal cast. The CBFC certificate record
What is the story?
Seven years after the events of Raid, the first film’s politician Rameshwar is behind bars. Amay is now pursuing Union Cabinet minister Manohar, known as Dada Bhai, who cultivates an image as a virtuous son and generous hometown benefactor. Amay’s job is to uncover the wealth concealed beneath that public image and build a case against him.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That premise gives the sequel a different opponent and a larger political arena, but, in Ramnath’s assessment, not a sufficiently fresh dramatic shape. Familiar characters and the return of Rameshwar offer continuity for viewers of the first film, yet they also keep reminding the audience of what the original did more effectively.
Does the sequel match the first film?
Not on the evidence of Ramnath’s review. Her central criticism is structural: Raid 2 changes the target while leaning heavily on the first film’s formula, and some scenes feel staged in much the same way. The result is less a convincing escalation than a return to familiar beats.

The investigation also takes too long to get moving. When it does, the turns strain credibility, making it harder for the film’s procedural suspense to build. A crime drama about a powerful politician and an honest officer needs more than the promise of a raid; it needs sustained conflict over who controls the facts, the institutions and the public story.
How well does the political face-off work?
The best version of this story would make Amay and Dada Bhai spar repeatedly: the official trying to turn evidence into accountability, the politician using power and reputation to resist. Ramnath finds too few strong exchanges between the two. Deshmukh gives Dada an effective air of controlled menace, but the film does not consistently convert that performance into a gripping contest of wills.

Devgn returns as the steady, duty-bound Amay. That composure suits the character, though it also means the drama depends on the opposing force and the writing to generate volatility. The screenplay does not provide enough sharp, consequential confrontations to make the central pursuit feel as tense as its premise promises.
What works in Raid 2?
The film retains pleasures that will appeal to viewers who enjoy the franchise’s mix of investigation, populist justice and character humour. Ramnath highlights memorable dialogue and earthy comic moments, as well as the satisfaction of seeing illicit money exposed and an honest officer prevail.

Deshmukh is a notable strength: his performance is controlled rather than showy, giving Dada Bhai a plausible menace. Amit Sial brings slippery energy to returning colleague Lallan, while Shruti Pandey makes an impression as Geeta. Those supporting turns help enliven a film whose central dramatic exchanges are less consistently compelling.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Raid 2 worth watching?
If you liked the first film and want to spend more time with Amay Patnaik, Raid 2 offers familiar satisfactions: a new political target, a morally clear pursuit, lively lines and a strong antagonist performance. It is a less persuasive choice if you want a sequel that meaningfully reinvents the original’s structure or sustains a taut political-crime duel. Ramnath’s verdict is that the sequel works in spots but labours beside its predecessor.
