After Bachelor in Paradise aired in 2019, Rachael Gouvignon said she experienced anxiety and felt very depressed. She linked that distress to watching an edit she felt misrepresented her experience. Those are her accounts from that period—not a diagnosis, an independently established cause, or a statement about her mental health today.
What Gouvignon said she experienced
In an interview published on 19 May 2019, PerthNow quoted Gouvignon saying: “So I suffered from anxiety and felt very depressed in which I felt betrayed by the editors and Channel 10.” She also said watching the programme “took a huge hit on me emotionally and even physically.” The article described her friends and family as beginning to see her spark return; it also said she was working on herself and on returning to primary school teaching. PerthNow’s report presents these as Gouvignon’s own reflections at the time.

How she described the effect of the edit
In an interview published on 18 April 2019, Now To Love reported that Gouvignon said the edit made her “anxious, sick” and “unable to eat” before each episode. She was particularly concerned that viewers did not see everything that had happened between her and Richie Strahan. This describes how she said she felt and her view of the programme’s portrayal; the reporting does not independently establish that the edit caused her symptoms. Read the Now To Love interview.
What Channel 10 said about support
PerthNow reported that a Channel 10 spokeswoman said: “As part of the show’s duty of care, all Bachelor in Paradise cast have full access to mental health professionals.” That is the broadcaster’s statement as reported by the outlet. It does not say whether Gouvignon personally accessed support, what support she received, or how it related to her experience.

What the reporting does not establish
- The articles describe Gouvignon’s reported feelings in 2019; they do not establish her current mental health.
- Her account of anxiety and low mood should not be presented as a clinical diagnosis.
- The reports do not establish an independently verified cause for her distress. Attribute her perspective about the edit to her.
- The cited reports do not establish what individual support she received or what Channel 10’s current duty-of-care policy is.
Keep other personal disclosures in context
In an April 2018 interview, Gouvignon spoke about feeling lonely as a single woman in her thirties and said others had told her they related to that experience. That was a separate conversation, not evidence explaining her later post-show distress. Mamamia’s 2018 report.
In October 2019, Mamamia reported on Gouvignon’s disclosure of a sexual assault she said occurred when she was 21 and noted that she had seen a psychologist. That account is also separate: the cited reporting does not establish that the assault caused her distress after Bachelor in Paradise. Read Mamamia’s report.
