In 2024, Rolling Stone reported anonymous crew allegations about Van Ness; Van Ness disputed the report. Karamo Brown made separate statements about his own experience in 2026.
Why did Bobby Berk leave Queer Eye?
Berk announced in November 2023 that he would leave after season eight. In a January 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, he described a change in the show’s plans: Netflix renewed the series in fall 2023, after a programming gap associated with the writers’ and actors’ strikes. Berk said he had understood that the other cast members were leaving, had made other plans, and then concluded, “I had to leave.”
That is Berk’s own account of the timing and decision. He also spoke about a personal falling-out with fellow cast member Tan France, but that is a separate issue from the renewal and scheduling explanation he gave for leaving. His comments do not establish that a feud was the reason he departed.
What did the reports about Jonathan Van Ness allege?
In March 2024, Rolling Stone published an investigation citing anonymous production crew members who alleged that Van Ness displayed anger and behavioral problems on set. The allegations appeared within a wider account of tensions around the production. They remain claims attributed to anonymous sources, not independently established findings in the cited reporting.

The reporting does not establish that Van Ness’s alleged conduct caused Berk to leave. Berk’s stated explanation focused on the show’s renewal and his plans; connecting the allegations to his departure would go beyond what these accounts show.
How did Van Ness respond?
In June 2024, Van Ness disputed the report, saying it was not “really based in reality,” as Vanity Fair reported. The available accounts therefore present allegations from anonymous crew sources and Van Ness’s denial; they do not settle what happened in every private on-set interaction.

What did Karamo Brown say in 2026?
January: stepping back from press interviews
When the final season was being promoted in January 2026, Brown withdrew from cast press interviews. CBS News reported that he said he needed “to focus on and to protect” his mental health and felt mentally and emotionally abused for years. Those are Brown’s statements about his own experience, not independent findings about the alleged events.
June: a later account of events on set
In June 2026, Brown discussed the fallout and his account of what his mother heard on set, as reported by The Independent. His comments are a later development and should not be treated as confirmation of the anonymous-source allegations published in 2024. The cited accounts do not independently establish how Brown’s claims relate to those earlier allegations or provide a complete, verified explanation of the private events he described.
