The emerald-and-diamond Prince of Wales feathers jewel that Queen Camilla has worn as a brooch was previously set as a necklace pendant worn by Princess Diana. Its commonly cited value of about $137,000 is a jeweler’s estimate—not a confirmed sale price or an official Royal Collection valuation.
What is the jewel Camilla wears as a brooch?
It is identified in reporting as the Prince of Wales feathers jewel: a diamond setting shaped around the three-feather badge and coronet, with a green emerald drop. Diana wore it in a necklace setting; Camilla has worn it as a brooch. The feathers and coronet are associated with the Prince of Wales title, which Charles held before becoming king.
The exact date and authorization of the change from necklace to brooch have not been established in the cited coverage. Nor does that reporting establish that Camilla personally commissioned the alteration. InStyle’s account describes the jewel’s reported history and public appearances.
How did Diana’s necklace become associated with the royal collection?
According to InStyle, the jewel originated with Queen Alexandra and was given to Diana by Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, as a wedding present in 1981. Diana wore it as a necklace at public events, including the Royal Opera House in December 1982, a Vienna gala in 1986 and a Toronto gala in 1991.

After Diana died in 1997, accounts cited in the coverage say the jewel returned to the royal collection. The sources do not include a Royal Household provenance record, and they do not establish the item’s detailed legal ownership. It is therefore more precise to describe it as a jewel Diana received and wore, rather than assert that she owned it privately.
When did Camilla wear it?
InStyle reports that Camilla first wore the jewel in its brooch form at Cheltenham Ladies’ Day in 2012. She wore it again at a 2019 reception marking Charles’s 50th anniversary as Prince of Wales. The 2019 appearance was not its first reported public outing as a brooch.

InStyle also reports that Kate Middleton wore the brooch in 2022 and 2025. Its appearances on different members of the royal family reflect its reported place in the royal collection; they do not, by themselves, establish who authorized its redesign.
Is the brooch really worth $137,000?
The figure is an estimate, not a documented transaction. In 2025, Maxwell Stone, creative director at jeweler Steven Stone, estimated the piece at around £100,000. InStyle later gave the approximate dollar equivalent as $137,000. Neither figure is presented as an auction result or an official Royal Collection valuation.

Stone also estimated that the brooch contains approximately four carats of white diamonds and a three-carat cabochon-cut emerald. Steven Stone’s description is a jeweler’s assessment, not a published laboratory report. Changing the setting does not establish a new market value. Stone said he expected the redesign to have minimal impact on value, but no independent auction result or publicly available Royal Household valuation for this exact jewel is cited in the coverage. Why the necklace-to-brooch story draws attention
The jewel connects two highly visible royal figures through the same striking design, but in different forms: Diana wore the emerald drop as a necklace pendant, while Camilla has worn the piece as a brooch.
