In a November 2024 interview, The Purple Wiggle Lachlan “Lachy” Gillespie described why his family was not putting YouTube on for his children at that time: the abundance of video choices made it easy for them to switch before finishing. He also acknowledged the tension between that parenting concern and The Wiggles’ work creating online content. His comments were a personal account of his family’s approach then—not current screen-time guidance or a statement of what the family does now.
Why Gillespie found YouTube difficult for his children
In a report published by PerthNow on 3 November 2024, Dylan Caporn reported on a Sunday Times interview with Gillespie as The Wiggles prepared for the Wiggle and Learn tour in Perth. Gillespie said the family did not have YouTube on for the children “at the moment,” pointing to the number of available videos and the way children could move on before finishing one.
“It’s really tricky, and it’s a funny thing, isn’t it — we make YouTube content, but at the moment, we just don’t have YouTube on for our kids because there’s way too many options,” he said.
The phrase “at the moment” matters: the report describes a time-specific household decision, not a permanent ban or a current rule. PerthNow identified Gillespie as father to twin daughters Lulu and Lottie, then four, and stepfather to Jasper.

The tension between parenting and making online videos
Gillespie recognized the apparent contradiction: The Wiggles produced YouTube content even as he described limiting YouTube for his own children. He said the group had reduced touring that year while developing social-media and streaming videos to compete for children’s online attention.
He also described an effort to edit the group’s videos with less stimulation and encourage children to get up and move along to the songs. Those are Gillespie’s descriptions of The Wiggles’ approach; the interview did not establish that the edits produce particular effects.

What his comments do—and do not—tell parents
Gillespie’s account identifies a specific difficulty he encountered: abundant choices and children switching videos before they finished. It does not establish how common that experience is, what effects it has on children, or what screen-time rules are right for other families. The report is an interview, not clinical or public-health guidance, and it does not describe the family’s present practices.
The interview also discussed Wiggle Talk, the parenting podcast Gillespie co-hosts with Red Wiggle Simon Pryce. Gillespie characterized the podcast as a way to speak directly with parents and share ordinary parenting struggles.

A later screen-free audio collaboration
In a November 2025 Yoto newsroom announcement, the company introduced five dedicated Wiggles Yoto Cards for its screen-free audio platform. Gillespie was quoted saying, “Being a father, I’m always trying to achieve a healthy balance with screen time for my own children.” This is a later statement in a company announcement about an audio collaboration, not confirmation of his current household rules or independent evidence that audio products affect screen use. The announcement said the cards were available online and at Australian retailers at that time; it does not establish present stock or availability elsewhere.
