Promise Village, a planned one-day music festival at Perth’s Langley Park on 12 October 2024, was cancelled in July before it took place. Its ticketing notice cited “unforeseen circumstances” and said refunds had been processed automatically. Co-founder Emal Naim later told PerthNow that ticket sales fell short of expectations and local government support was insufficient to sustain the event’s costs.
What happened to Promise Village?
Promise Village was announced on 2 July 2024, with general ticket sales opening on 15 July. On 17 July, the ticketing pathway carried a cancellation notice. The festival was not held.
The event had been scheduled for Saturday, 12 October 2024, at Langley Park in Perth as a one-day festival featuring R&B, hip-hop and Afrobeats artists. PerthNow reported that organizers had not made a separate official announcement at the time; the cancellation message appeared through the ticketing channel.
What did the cancellation notice say about refunds?
The Megatix notice, as reported by PerthNow and The Music in July 2024, said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances Promise Village on the 12th of October 2024 will no longer be going ahead.” It also said refunds had been processed automatically, so customers did not need to take action, and asked them to allow up to five business days for funds to reach the account used for purchase.

That was the notice’s guidance at the time of cancellation, not current advice about an individual account or a live ticket transaction.
Why was the festival cancelled?
“Unforeseen circumstances” was the wording in the ticketing notice. Co-founder Emal Naim gave PerthNow a more specific explanation: the event had not met initial expectations, and there was not enough support to sustain its costs. He said it was no longer feasible.

“It unfortunately didn’t hold up to initial expectations and there was not much support to sustain costs, it just wasn’t feasible anymore.”
Naim’s explanation, reported by PerthNow, points to weaker-than-expected ticket sales and insufficient local government support. Neither PerthNow nor The Music reported a precise ticket-sales total, festival budget or quantified support amount.

Which artists had been announced?
The proposed headliners were J Hus, Rema and Jorja Smith. The announced lineup also included Headie One, Nemzzz, Uncle Waffles, NSG, DBN Gogo, Sarz, Jazmine Nikitta and Sasha Fern. The Music listed Yung Filly as host.
These were announced or planned performers, not artists who played at Promise Village: the festival was cancelled before its scheduled date.

Did organizers plan to return to Perth?
In comments reported by The Music at the time of the cancellation, Naim said organizers had decided indefinitely not to return to Perth: “We’ve made the decision indefinitely to not return to Perth, we’re scared to.” That describes the decision he reported in July 2024; it does not establish whether circumstances changed later.
