Caycee Black was eliminated after the first challenge of Project Runway Season 21. Parade’s premiere recap places her in the bottom three with Joseph and Antonio, and reports that this was her second elimination in the show’s first challenge. The “heartbreaking” description is a subjective framing: the available account does not include a first-person statement from Black about how she felt.
Who went home on the Project Runway Season 21 premiere?
Caycee Black was sent home in episode one, “New House / New Rules,” according to Parade’s July 31, 2025 recap. The recap identifies Joseph and Antonio as the other designers in the bottom three. It also describes Black’s departure as her second elimination in the show’s first challenge.
What was the first challenge?
The twelve designers were divided into two groups: House of Princesses and House of Villains. Each group had to create a cohesive collection inspired by its assigned identity. The premiere recap reports that the judges ultimately eliminated Black after this challenge.
Why is the elimination described as heartbreaking?
The repeat-elimination context offers a reason viewers may find Black’s departure especially difficult: she was reportedly eliminated for a second time in a first challenge. But the available recap does not include a first-person account from Black describing her reaction, so “heartbreaking” should be understood as an editorial judgment rather than a documented statement about her feelings.

Parade quotes judge Law Roach asking, “Do we send home the bad dress or the bad attitude?” That is the recap’s quoted account, not a verified transcript. The Daily Beast separately reported Roach’s comment about another contestant, Jesus Estrada: “I didn’t just hate the coat. I hated the entire look.” The report says Estrada then burst into tears. That critique concerned Estrada, not Black, and should not be confused with the reason for Black’s elimination.
How did the two-episode premiere unfold?
Freeform announced that Season 21 would premiere in the United States on Thursday, July 31, 2025, with two episodes beginning at 9 p.m. EDT. The network said the episodes would be available shortly afterward on Hulu and Disney+; those were announcement-era US viewing details, not a guarantee of current catalog availability or access in other regions. The announcement named Heidi Klum as host, Nina Garcia and Law Roach as judges, and Christian Siriano as mentor.

The first episode’s elimination should not be confused with the outcome of the second episode. “Feel the Burn” challenged the designers to create cohesive athletic collections that could move from workout to cocktails. Parade’s recap says that episode did not reveal an elimination, leaving the result unresolved at the end of the two-episode premiere.
